World Youth Day Tag

PANAMÁ, Zaritza Bayo and Fr. José Luis Correa • With Fr. Alexandre Awi’s letter to the youths and advisers, and the publication of the World Day logo, the gaze of God’s people is already directed toward Panama as it waits for the Holy Father and thousands of young people in January 2019. Many of those who had the privilege of attending the blessing of Costa Rica’s Schoenstatt Shrine or who travel frequently through Latin America, know Panama’s airport with its beautiful “Our Lady of Loreto” Chapel, patroness of aviators, whereRead More

WYD 2016 / ITALY, Denise Campagna and Alessia Llull • When you spontaneously decide to write an article post-trip, what you want to do is to complete the work soon after your return. This gives you the certainty of being able to tell everything perfectly, so that nothing can escape from what you lived! But if, because of various vicissitudes, you delay even a month from that time, will it ever get out? We can assure you that the initial security, clarity and perfection of the story, is unavoidably lessened.Read More
By José Carlos Mendoza Dillon, Cali, Mexico • I belong to the Schoenstatt Professionals in Monterrey (Mexico). I participated as a volunteer at World Youth Day in Krakow. How does one experience World Youth Day? We know that World Youth Days are massive gatherings of youths celebrated every three years. This gathering and the previous one surpassed 3,000,000 pilgrims. It is commonRead More

The faded stars in Cologne

By Sarah-Leah Pimentel • The article “On the Move with Trust in GOD” brought tears to my eyes. The article says that a candle with the World Youth Day symbol was burning in the shrine. And then I saw the photograph. It was not the symbol of WYD2016, it was the symbol of WYD2005, which took place in Cologne, Germany that year. The motto that year was “We have come to worship him.” And the five stars that greeted the young people who came to Cologne that year are still there.Read More
WYD2016, by Sebastián Denis • “We prayed at the memorial that Pope Francis will visit tomorrow”, the youths from Paraguay commented on the afternoon Thursday, 28 July. “That morning we went to Auschwitz and could not return in time for the Pope’s welcome because the visit to the concentration camp is by numerical order and ours happened to be on that day and it is far away.” Situated some 43km west of Krakow, Auschwitz was the main extermination centre in the history of Nazism. It is estimated that 1.3 millionRead More
GERMANY, By Maria Fischer • Cologne on “Sunday, the only 31 July 2016, the day that will never be repeated”, the good-humoured train driver of the Rhein-Sieg Express announced at 12.23 p.m. to help his passengers get over their frustration because of the delay. “If we trust in God we will still catch the connecting train in Siegen.” At that moment those taking part in the pilgrimage on foot with “Trust in God” had been walking for more than an hour through heavy showers of rain through Cologne towards BrühlRead More
WYD2016 ORIGINAL Shrine, by Maria Fischer • On Thursday, 21 July, I approached the place that is so precious to every Schoenstatter with an envelope containing more than a 1,000 letters, written over the last few weeks, to the Blessed Mother in the Original Shrine. It was a sunny and peaceful day, although youth groups on their pilgrimage toward World Youth Day in Krakow should already have been there. But it was just the opposite– no one was around the Original Shrine. Petitions and encounters How much love, how muchRead More
