Anniversary of the Shrine in Hungary

HUNGARY, Endrédy Orsolya Török (PM) •

Recently we discovered a press release in a Hungarian newspaper, which we are very happy to publish in a slightly abbreviated form: On the anniversary of the blessing of the only Schoenstatt shrine in Hungary, more than 300 people gathered in Óbudavár near Lake Balaton on April 6 to give thanks. —

Anniversary of the dedication of the shrine in Hungary

The name and mission of the chapel were found in the fall of 2023 at a synodal meeting of the Schoenstatt Movement. Sr. Gertrud-Maria Erhard, Schoenstatt Sister of Mary, opened the meeting with a talk on the “Shrine of the entwined hearts”.

As an example, the speaker mentioned the community of hearts of St. Elizabeth of the House of Árpád and her husband Count Ludwig, whose love for Christ united their hearts in their marriage of love. Another vivid image of the lecture was the blood covenant, which stood at the beginning of Hungarian history and expressed the complete togetherness and community of destiny.

In the Hungarian Schoenstatt Shrine in Óbudavár, Mary welcomes us as Mother and Queen, whatever our burdens may be. We place everything in her hands, and she leads us to Jesus. However, Mary always asks something of us when we come to her: our faithful renewal, our daily work.

After the talk, Csaba Pap spoke about the work with Sister Beáta-Mária Horváth, the translator of the recently published biography of Father Joseph Kentenich, whose German title is “Am Rande des Vulkans”.

Throughout the day there was a series of games and activities for children.

In the chapel, Miklós Gábor gave a guided tour of the history of the chapel and its furnishings, which conveyed a message.

Together on the marriage path

In the afternoon, more than thirty couples walked together on the Marriage Path, a spiritual journey consisting of 15 stages of family life, led by representatives of the Family Academy.

In the late afternoon, the Holy Mass began with a concelebration by Benedictine Prior Emeritus Richárd Korzenszky from Tihany and Father Péter Csermák from Schoenstatt. During the Mass, five couples sealed the Covenant of Love with Mary. With this solemn gesture, the couples invite Mary into their home to educate and form their family according to the Heavenly Father’s plan.

Father Richárd spoke about the miracle of life that he sees growing year after year in Óbudavár. After Holy Mass, he blessed the renovated memorial column, which bears the names of the deceased Schoenstatters of Hungary and a quote about them.

At the end of the celebrations, the organizers presented prizes to the winners of the cake competition, the creators of the children’s drawings and the logo design competition for the name of the chapel. In the logo design competition, the jury chose Imri Ozsváriné Ramocsai’s design, while Péter Hodován’s design won the public vote.
