Bicycle Pilgrimage from Lisbon to Fatima – in thanksgiving for the Original Shrine

PORTUGAL, Gonçalo Vilela. Another bicycle pilgrimage — with the Holy Trinity as its theme — took place at the end of May uniting the Schoenstatt Shrine in Lisbon with the Fatima Shrine, adding 175km to the “Tejo Way.”

Organized by the Men’s Branch of the Schoenstatt Movement in Lisbon, it was with a special attitude of gratitude that the pilgrims received the news that the Pallottine Fathers decided to give the Original Shrine as a jubilee gift to the Movement on the centenary of its foundation.

2014 Pilgrimage

Another bicycle pilgrimage for 2014 is expected, this time along the “sea way,” starting from the Lisbon Shrine towards Estoril, along the shoreline until Guincho, before it winds its way toward the interior, crossing over the dunes and the Sintra Mountains. The journey will then pass through several “historic sites,” including World Heritage Sites such as Sintra, Mafra, Óbidos and Alcobaça.

25 minutes after receiving the Portuguese translation

“On 22 May, we showed our ability to share information.  Just twenty-five minutes after the Portuguese translation reached us, we had already shared it with the entire network of contacts in Portugal and of course, the phones started ringing,” explained Daniel Simões, a www.schoenstatt.org correspondent, and added that: “On 24 May the bicycle pilgrimage from the Lisbon Shrine to Fatima had already been planned, but after the news of the Original Shrine, we decided that this should be a thanksgiving pilgrimage!”
