The Corpus Christi procession at Mount Schoenstatt

mev. This Sunday, June 10th, we lived a truly heavenly experience at Mount Schoenstatt. As it is done traditionally, many gathered around the Holy Trinity Church to adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

The celebration began with a Holy Mass at 8:30.  The flower carpets that had been prepared for this day could be admired throughout the mountain.  The variety of the designs and colors were very attractive; two special subjects were outstanding:  the Shrine Current and the Holy Shroud (that had been exhibited in the Cathedral of Trier during the previous weeks).

Hundreds of people came to the church and an atmosphere of solemnity and devotion could be felt.  Thirteen priests con-celebrated the Holy Mass.  After the Eucharistic celebration, everyone left the church to line up at the side of the road to begin the procession, which was presided by flags of approximately fifty countries; they were proudly carried by their representatives or participants from Germany.

International Moments

The procession made four stops.  At each one of them, one the priests read the Gospel, petitions were made and songs were sung.  At each stop, something original could be seen; a group of children welcomed the participants with songs to Jesus in front of the Mother House of the Sisters of Mary. It was also a beautiful moment when everyone united as an international family and the Hail Mary was prayed in several languages.

The weather was an important factor in the normal development of the procession.  Before the Mass, someone timidly said:  “It is forecast that it is going to rain this morning;” however, after the final blessing of the participants, Father Dr. Bernd Biberger said with a big smile:  “We are grateful to the Good God who gave us this weather.”

It was a beautiful morning in which heaven truly touched the earth, and everyone experienced a truly supernatural joy that comes from the real presence of the Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in His Church.
