Baptisms and First Communions in Providencia

URUGUAY, Juan Andrés Nopitsch •

On Friday, 9 June, six young boys from Providencia School were baptized and twelve made their First Communion in a very emotional and joyful ceremony.

We celebrated the sacraments of Baptism and First Communion accompanied by families, educators, friends and with the participation of Cardinal Daniel Sturla. “It was really a time for the family, it was a very special moment that was awaited by the little ones, who had prepared themselves for several months. There were many feelings: emotion, anxiety, joy…Heaven really touched earth, the Blessed Mother gave new proof that she reigns in Provi,” Florencia Ortigoza, Pastoral Coordinator, related.

Franco, a student from the School, expressed gratitude to God in the thanksgiving prayer for, “giving us this very special day for us and for giving us this opportunity to give our first yes, of believing in You and all of your teachings”.

Providencia Educational Center

The Providencia Educational Center is located in the Cerro Oeste (Montevideo, Uruguay), it emerged in 1994, as a result of the joint work of neighborhood families and the lay members of the Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement. Perceiving the need for an educational place for children and teen, volunteers and neighbors began to develop educational activities. The Educational Center has grown and has promoted the participation of more children and youths becoming a socio-educational reference point in the community. Currently, we are working with 330 people including, children, youths and their families, through the joint work of specialized technicians, educators and volunteers. We seek to impact the lives of children and teens so their educational and work opportunities can increase day by day.  Ultimately, we want children and youths to find a place where they can develop their potential in freedom and a place where they can embody their ideas and initiatives.
