New Auxiliary Bishop of San Juan in Puerto Rico

The current vicar general of San Juan and director of the Cursillos in Christianity, Father Tomás González González, was named this Friday morning, September 8, by Pope Francis as the new auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of San Juan. —

According to a briefing received from Fr. Jose Luis Correa, the appointed bishop has made personal retreats at the Juana Diaz Shrine and in Milwaukee. May the Mother Thrice Admirable of Schoenstatt bless him in his new mission from these shrines.

Tomás González González was born on August 23, 1968, in Santurce, and was ordained to the priesthood on August 6, 2001, at the San Juan Bautista Regional Major Seminary in San Juan. He graduated in Administration from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) and then in Theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico (PUCPR) in Ponce.

As a religious, he has held the following positions: Vicar of the Parish of San Lucas Evangelista (2001-2002), Member of the Council of Orders and Ministries (2005-2023), Delegate to the Council of the Regional Major Seminary of San Juan Puerto Rico (2003-2023), Pastor of San Lucas Evangelista (2002-2015), Spiritual Director of the Cursillos de Cristiandad movement (2012-2023), Episcopal Vicar of the Vicariate of Río Piedras-Trujillo Alto (2016-2023) and currently Vicar General.

The date of the episcopal ordination of the new bishop, 55 years old, will be next November 18 at the Church of Santa Teresita, Loíza Street, in Santurce, at 11:00 a.m.
