An Engaged Couple Prepare for the Sacrament of Matrimony in Schoenstatt

María Elena Vilches. María Teresa (from Uruguay) and Christian (from Germany) will marry on May 12th in Fussen, in the south of Germany.  They wanted to come to the Original Shrine for their marriage preparation.

Fifteen years ago, Fr. Egon Zillikens traveled to Maldonado, Uruguay to visit his friend, who was the Bishop of that diocese.  The Bishop, knowing that Fr. Egon belonged to the Federation of Schoenstatt Priests, wanted to introduce him to a family who were friends of his.  The family belonged to the Movement in Uruguay.  It was then that me met María Teresa and her family.  “They treated me as if I were a relic when they learned that I had known Father Kentenich personally,” relates Fr. Egon with a great smile.

A re-encounter and a trip to Fussen

In December of last year, at a celebration in the Cathedral of Cologne, Fr. Egon met María Teresa anew.  Both were invited by the “special guest” of this celebration, the bishop of Maldonado. On that occasion, she was with her fiancé and told him they would be getting married soon.  “A few weeks ago, they called me to tell me that the priest who was supposed to marry them was ill and they asked me to marry them…a part of the rite would be in Spanish.”  Last weekend, this young couple was – exactly while the Father Eye Symbol for the Original Shrine on its world-wide pilgrimage was in Uruguay – here in Schoenstatt for their preparation and to speak to Father Egon who will travel to Fussen on May 12th to preside at their marriage celebration and to re-encounter the bride’s family fifteen years later.
