Pope Francis inspires the 20 newly married couples for a family charity project

VATICANO, red. Following the call of Pope Francis of reaching out to the peripheries, the twenty couples united in marriage on September 14th in Saint Peter’s Basilica presented the Holy Father with a center for helping youth and families in difficulty.

As reported by Caritas Rome, spouses collaborated on this project with Caritas Rome during their preparation for marriage, and with this contribution hope to begin a path of charity to assist the poorest families of Rome.

This gift will be realized thanks to the help of Caritas in the neighborhood of Colli Aniene, located on the outskirts of Rome. The center will be completed in the coming months and will develop a series of programs aimed at promoting the evolutionary growth of children, especially in situations of indisposition and social and cultural marginalization.

“I thank the husbands and wives for their attention to young people, and I wish the new families, who started their journeys today, directing their love for those who are in need, to continue cultivating their encounter and relationship with others, their neighbors, because this sacramental sign, more than any other, characterizes marriage and  the life of every Christian,” said the Director of Caritas Rome, Mons. Enrico Feroci.

Serving children and parents

The project consists of a meeting place for children and resident families who can contribute to the development of family welfare by supporting parents in their educational tasks.

For this, there is the development of activities that contribute to the educational process of young people, learning and social skills, building a positive relationship with the adult world through educational and relational support, and offering opportunities for the gathering and development of young people.

In particular, this center is dedeicated and intended for (playing) games as a foundational value of culture, education and human experience. This center for children will provide them the opportunity to freely engage in activities they want, meet new friends and benefit from this personal experience.

Furthermore, the center will host various activities and services: hands-on, creative, expressive and constructive workshops, reading, organizing and planning parties, meetings, events, exhibitions, and seminars.
