Consecration of the world to Mary

mda.  The Marian Journey has begun in Rome; it will end on Sunday the 13th, when Francis will consecrate the world to Mary,in the presence of the original statue of Our Lady of Fatima.

The Marian Journey held this weekend within the framework of the Year of the Faith will be marked by the presence of the image of the Virgin of Fatima, by the Marian reflection that Pope Francis will present, a rosary and a prayer vigil uniting nine Marian shrines of the world; and on Sunday, the 13th, after Mass, the Pope will entrust the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.   Moreover, it is an event that invites the faithful to the daily prayer of the holy rosary.  Aproximately 150,000 pilgrims and 48 international delegations, in addition to the presence of associations from many Marian shrines of the world are expected.

Along with the Shrine of Divine Love in Rome, 11 other Marian shrines from the entire world were chosen by Francis to participate in a prayer vigil on Saturday afternoon:  Lourdes (France), Czestochowa (Poland) Nazareth (Israel), Virgin of Luján in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Aparecida (Brazil, Nairobi (Kenya), Akita (Japan), Banneux (Belgium), Vailankann (India), Washington (United States), and Fatima (Portugal).  According to Pope Francis’ wishes, this is how the Church will prepare in prayer for the consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary that will take place on the following day, Sunday, October 13th, at Saint Peter’s Square.

Beyond being something simultaneous, this vigil seems to be a “covenant of solidarity” of the Marian Shrines of the world.  Surely we will gather in our shrines, wayside shrines, homeshrines…

Tomorrow we will have our Covenant Day, during which we will join Pope Francis in consecrating the world to Mary. Our Fathers have been searching the internet for the prayer, but have not found it. I suspect that our Holy Father will pray spontaneously! I prepared the shrine this afternoon with the Jubilee altar frontal (Your Covenant – Our mission) and gold, green and blue ribbons going out from the tabernacle to two tables where the people will put tea lights. They will write their personal prayer of consecration on a red heart, which they can take home or put in the jar in the shrine. This will be followed by a Family Mass with the children and percussion instruments, and then a shared meal.
Let us pray that many come.
