Toward 2014 in Covenant with “The Little Campaign”

mev/mda. On the pilgrimage toward 2014, the Schoenstatt Family allover the world is discovering concrete fruits of the Covenant of Love that are a contribution to the Covenant Culture.  Every Saturday, the Masses “toward 2014” are a tool not only to learn; but rather, to unite in prayer of gratitude for many of these fruits.  So, on Saturday, February 16th, the Holy Mass toward 2014 was celebrated in covenant with “The Little Campaign”, a modality of the Schoenstatt Rosary Campaign for at risk babies.

The Little Campaign emerged fifteen years ago when a missionary, who was concerned about the birth of a premature baby – born at the seventh month of development- took a Pilgrim MTA to the family. For fifteen years, the Pilgrim MTA, in a small picture, has accompanied babies who are struggling for their lives and their parents. In the beginning, it was only for premature babies, later it was for children, who were ill with cancer and children whose lives were in danger even before they were born.

For at risk babies

Many times, the missionaries take the “Little Pilgrim MTA”, a small picture in a Moses basket, to the babies who are in the neo-natal stage, place it on the incubators where the small baby is struggling for his/her life, or they take it to the parents; they also commit to help them concretely.

In many cases, they take care of the siblings of the at risk baby while their parents accompany him/her in hospital, which at times is hundreds of kilometers away; they take care of the clothes and lodging for those who sometimes leave their homes in a rushed emergency without packing a bag.  In many hospitals with neo-natal wards or oncology wards for children, there are waysides shrines of the Blessed Mother.

In many of these hospitals, the doctors on call, and the firemen or priests have the phone numbers of the missionaries of “The Little Campaign”.  “The Little Campaign” has extended from Argentina to Paraguay, Mexico and occasionally it is used in many other countries.

To be instruments of the Covenant Culture

Father Ignacio Camacho was thinking about the project since the night before, when he commented outside of the shrine how this work of The Little Campaign was so noble and creative. Alluding to the Gospel of the day, Father Ignacio said:  “Today we hear Jesus’ words ‘come and follow me’.  They are words that invite us to renew ourselves during this time of Lent in the awareness of following Jesus of being his instruments.  This a very concrete and real way– the only way–to build a covenant culture:  Being instruments of Christ and of Mary.”

It was for this reason that the previous night it was decided to sing the Mass of the Instrument from Father’s Heavenward in German and Spanish.

The rescue of the Shrine depends on us

The rescue of the Shrine depends on us,” someone commented a few days ago: and the offerings of so many that fill the jars were a conscious response and commitment.  This week contributions arrived from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, the United States, Spain, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, India, South Africa, Paraguay, Germany, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Uruguay.

Next Saturday the Holy Mass will be celebrated for one of the projects from the Field of pedagogy, the  Joseph Engling School, Quito-Ecuador.
