Our covenant…is your business

Agathe Hug. Your covenant our mission. Our covenant your mission. Your mission our covenant. Our mission your covenant…which one is correct? One could very well meditate on each of the combinations. Officially the motto is – and it has been discussed at length and at depth- Your covenant our mission-without a hyphen or without a comma.

And that is how it should be written on the antependiums. But do you know what elves are? They are imps who are always to blame for everything that is ruined; they are responsible for all the mistakes that no one committed. These imps distorted the Portuguese phrase of the antependium: it clearly reads “Our covenant – your mission,” with a hyphen.

But did the imps think about something when they “organized” this printing error? Do imps think? After the accredited “Nothing without you – nothing without us,” surely the inversion is important. If our covenant is not the mission of our celestial allies, then it would be very difficult for us poor humans. It is a grace if our celestial allies make our covenant their mission.

For that reason, even if the vignette were changed for the official and correct version on the home page of schoenstatt.org that reproduces the antependium; the urge to murmur or shout, anew, to one or the other of the celestial allies with the modulation, which corresponds to the present mood and the concrete experience – our covenant…YOUR MISSION.

PS: Someone has already ordered an antependium with the phrase “Our covenant your mission,” in every language…
