The International Boys’ Youth Meeting in Rio de Janeiro Needs Your Help

BRAZIL, Fr. Alexandre Awi de Melo/org. 2013 is approaching…the year of the missionary current for the International Schoenstatt Movement and the third year of the triennial preparation for the jubilee of the Covenant of Love.  As the worldwide Schoenstatt Family we enter into the Jubilee Year of the Covenant of Love on 17-18 October 2013.At the Original Shrine this opening will again take place within the framework of an international vigil, although the framework will be somewhat larger than the two previous years. On 18 October 2013 all the shrines across the world, and everywhere Schoenstatt exists, should celebrate the Covenant Day with particular solemnity as the first day of the Jubilee Year of grace.(Document: Opening of the Preparatory Triennium and the Jubilee Year).  But before this, another celebration is already moving the Youth of Brazil and beyond… In 2013, World Youth Day will take place in Rio de Janeiro, and the Boys Youth will once again organize an international meeting.  All of the members of the Boys’ Youth are invited to choose the name for the meeting.

“There is little more than a year until the International Scheonstatt Boys’ Youth (JUMAS) Meeting that will take place in the days leading up to WYD in Rio de Janeiro in 2013.” These words can be found on the website they created specifically for the international meeting, and which is translated into four languages.

Through schoenstatt.org, they want to call on all of the Scheonstatt Boys’ Youth by inviting them to be involved in the preparations for the meeting:

Dear Boys Youth!

We would like to invite you to choose the name for our International Meeting in Rio de Janeiro in 2013.  The votes are available in four languages: Portuguese, Spanish, English and German.  We want everybody’s help to find the best name for the meeting.  This is why we need your vote.  Voting will be open until May18th. Your opinion is very important!

Preparations have begun

Moved by the spirit of the Missionary Generation, and without wasting any time, the Organizing Committee is already at work.  It started in 2012 with “all stations go” and now they have reached a decisive point: choosing the name for the meeting!

Inspired by the WYD motto: “Go and make disciples of all peoples!” and on fire with missionary zeal, the Committee has proposed three names that express this spirit:

a) IGNIS (Latin for FIRE);

b) MISSIO (Latin for MISSION);

c) MissionáRio (combination of Portuguese word for ‘mission’ + Rio)

The advantage of a Latin name is that it is universal and represents the entire Church (the Meeting in Madrid was called ‘Unanimiter’, the Latin word for ‘unanimously’).  The advantage of a Portuguese name is the Brazilian flavor, playing on the words mentioned above.

In light of these options, the Committee wants the help of each member of our International Boys’ Youth to choose the best name for the meeting.
