Have you got the Fr Kentenich App already?

mda. “Have you got the Kentenich App already?” After a long day the groups are mixing in the cafeteria at the Schoenstatt Centre, Memholz. Four tinkerers are sitting in a corner, each with a smart phone in hand. “They won’t be talking via Whatsapp, will they?” someone asked at the next table. She had only heard the word “app”. Not at all. “Do you have the Kentenich App already?” The owners of iPhones have long faces, the two with smart phones using Android are looking pleased with themselves. “Of course …” They are two of over 500 people who installed the “Kentenich Daily Message App” in the first days after it was released by Bernhard Fischer, a member of the Family Movement in Germany. That number is growing …

In the meantime Bernhard Fischer has programmed his version, which also runs on older Android versions. A remarkable number of hits come via the Spanish language page of schoenstatt.org, Bernhard Fischer noted. It’s not surprising, because this page has more visitors than the other four language pages together. Among the countries that have downloaded the app are Germany, Argentina, Spain (Juan Zaforas immediately publicised the App via the newsletter), Switzerland, Chile and Paraguay, but in France, Macedonia and Guatemala there are also people who take up a saying of Fr Kentenich by looking at the display on their smart phone at work or even on the street.

I would miss something

“Personally I almost never use my smart phone to telephone someone”, Bernhard Fischer explained. He would like to receive far more feedback so that any possible mistakes can be removed. “As a ‘networker’ and ‘IT-freak’ I use such devices differently. Nevertheless, during the day I often look at the display, and the impulses initiated by the app have become a very important part of my day. As an iPhone or Windows mobile user I would really miss something! I would like to have more of such aids to assist in my daily search for God’s traces. Anyone got an idea …?”

Yes! Working independently of Bernhard Fischer in Germany, Emilio Gonzalez in Paraguay has also programmed a Fr Kentenich Telephone App, and is now busy developing one for iPhone users. To help him do this he has been sent the data collected by Bernhard Fischer. …

He is already thinking that a “spiritual daily schedule app” would also be meaningful, because “we are working with many young families and our main apostolic task is to lead them to live out of the covenant of love. A “spiritual daily schedule app” would be a great help. Perhaps I shall tackle it …. as a personal jubilee project.”
