Going out into the streets with Francis

ARGENTINA, Father José María Iturrería/mda. The Marathon of Solidarity named “Running with Francis” (for Pope Francis) was held on Sunday, November 17th; the Schoenstatt Youth with the support of the Archdiocese of Córdoba organized it. Its aim was to help Foundation 180 economically; the project of solidarity is an initiative of the Schoenstatt Professional Youths, which it has in the Barrio Dr. Cocca de La Calera, Córdoba.

After much commitment by the initiators and accompanied by the prayer of solidarity of many of the Schoenstatt Family within and outside of Argentina, it can be said with gratitude and emotion: The Marathon Running with Francis was incredible!

Making a lot of noise

Many, many people accompanied them! And they made “a lot of noise”, as Pope Francis asked the youths, uniting bridges between faith and sports. The solidarity was present in an initiative that as Francis said, makes the Church “go out to the street.”

More than 550 runners

More than 550 runners of all ages participated…the youngest was a little girl a year and half years old, who was accompanied by her mother, and the oldest was an eighty-two year old man who ran the five kilometers.

A day before, on November 16th, the logo of the Marathon of Solidarity was on the altar of the Original Shrine during the Mass “toward 2014”, along with the hundreds of letters that have arrived at the Original Shrine week by week via the “direct line” in schoenstatt.org as a contribution of solidarity by the collaborators of schoenstatt.org.
