The family in Uruguay grows in its social mission walking toward Jubilee 2014

URUGUAY, Maria del Rosario de Armas. The Movement’s social mission in Uruguay is located in a neighborhood of Montevideo known as “The Hill”. It is located on the hill which gave it its name: “monte vide eu”, we saw the hill, said the watchman of the first Spanish boat that entered the Río de Plata. Hence the name of the capital city Montevideo.

It is an area where its residents come from working families who settled here because of the concentration of cold storage plants dedicated to meat exportation, with an industry boom at the end of the 19th century and the middle of the 20th century.

The Campaign took its first steps in this neighborhood working with the area’s children and mothers, and the Mother’s Branch, the Couples and the Youth joined around the 1990s; they continue to work successfully even now.

As a result of this, they dreamed of having a school that would offer the youths of the area the preparation necessary to access a good quality of life that will allow them to also fulfill their dreams. It is basically funded by donations and activities carried out throughout the year. On September 14th, they will have celebration to make this work known and to seek possible benefactors. They will also work with sponsors for children attending this educational center where Father Kentenich’s pedagogy is presented.
