Meeting Fr. Andrew at EWTN

USA, Cathy Johnson. A phone call the evening of February 27, 2013, started it all. “Hi, Sister Jessica!  How are you?” I hadn’t heard from her for some time. She asked if I knew a certain priest in the Birmingham, Alabama, area, I told her that I did not. She was not sure of the priest’s name from the voice mail she received, but the priest said he would call her back. So we just dropped it and continued our conversation on other things.

Later that evening, I received another call from Sister Jessica. It turned out that the priest in question was Father Andrew Pastore, a Schoenstatt Father from England who was indeed in Birmingham staying at the EWTN guest house! She and Father Andrew had a long conversation, and she told Father Andrew about me. So Father called me and invited me for breakfast after the EWTN morning Mass the next morning, an invitation that caught me by surprise. But I readily accepted and looked forward to meeting Father Andrew and finding out what he was doing at EWTN. Father Andrew is in charge of communications for Schoenstatt 2014 and is the Editor of the Newsletter2014 that can be found on www.schoenstatt2014.org. Anyone can subscribe to receive information on the latest progress toward 2014.

Surprises

Talk about serendipity! Not only did I meet Father Andrew, but also a couple from Milwaukee: Dick and Terry Boldin from the Rosary Evangelization Apostolate. Dick and The Most Rev. Donald Hying, Aux. Bishop of Milwaukee, had appeared on Live With Father Mitch Pacwa the previous night to speak about the upcoming Hearts United 2013 Historic Eucharistic Rosary Rally for Peace and the Family on September 7th in Milwaukee. I was among spiritual giants!

Those who opened doors

I asked Father Andrew about his meeting with EWTN and was told that Schoenstatt and EWTN were collaborating for the project to air prior, during, and post 100th anniversary events LIVE. Also planned are three one-hour shows on an overview of the Jubilee events. This news is exciting because this will bring Schoenstatt front and center to the world.

He attributed the works of former Schoenstatters for opening the doors at EWTN for this truly unique experience in Schoenstatt history: Father Esteban Uriburu, Sister Mary Lestina, Sister Jessica Swedzinski, Father Gerold Langsch (and in a very small capacity, yours truly). He will also collaborate with EWTN on future programs for Germany.

Collaboration

For the present time, he suggested that we meet for a Holy Hour to pray for the success of 2014. It is necessary to work together to prepare for this historical event.

So I plan to have a Holy Hour with our immediate Schoenstatt Rosary Campaign members. I invite all members to join me in this endeavor.  MPHC!
