Scottish October conference and Crowning mass 2011

SCOTLAND, Fr. Michael Savage. The crowning mass is always a special celebration on the Scottish Schoenstatt calendar. However with the dreadfully wet and grey autumnal weather the thought did occur to us that perhaps people might be put off travelling to the glen. As it turned out the crowds turned out in buses and cars and on foot from all parts of the west of Scotland and beyond. The big hall was filled to the brim and the partition to what is normally the dining room needed to be opened to accommodate the extra numbers.

Altar Stone of the Original Shrine

Fr Bryan Cunningham of the Schoenstatt Fathers had been with the Scottish Schoenstatt families and members over the weekend for the October Conference. He was the main concelebrant at the crowning mass along with Fr Michael Savage. He had brought with him two items linked with Schoenstatt’s history. Firstly he spoke about the altar stone that used to be part of the original shrine altar back before world war two. He said:

Our prayer is that we find a home in the heart of Our Lady and that she finds a place in our hearts and that our home is reserved for her there we give her a place of honour in our Family

Father Kentenich’s hand print

He also brought a bronze cast of Fr Kentenich’s hand print created for the Schoenstatt fathers’ community back in the late 1960s. During this year of the shrine we can visit the shrine and place into the hands of God our Father, – a Father who keeps his promises – all our concerns, worries, and wishes for the future.

Father, my heart in your heart, My thinking in your thinking. My hand in your hand.
