Initiation of the first missionaries in Puerto Rico

PUERTO RICO, Edgardo L. Rivera. The Schoenstatt Jubilee Year has brought many blessings to the Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement, especially for the Schoenstatt Missionary Motorcyclists’ Club. One of these was the initiation of the first four members in Puerto Rico.

On Sunday, the 30th of November in Puerto Rico, the national celebration of 100 years of the Covenant of Love and its founding was held. All the different streams of graces, the many missionaries groups that have been born of the Covenant of Love with Mary came to the Shrine of Solidarity in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico.  This was the moment chosen by the Blessed Mother for the Missionary Motorcyclists to carry out the initiation of their first four members from Puerto Rico.

The vesting

It was a beautiful moment.  In the midst of the bustle that the Schoenstatt Jubilee anniversary celebration produced, the motorcyclists, along with a small group of witnesses, took the opportunity of an intimate moment in the Shrine to carry out the ceremony.

Father Francisco Rosa, Schoenstatt Adviser for Puerto Rico, began with a prayer to the Blessed Mother for the blessing of the jackets, which were in the care of the Sisters of Mary since the 18th of October. The candidates immediately read a letter of commitment as members of the Club, Letter of a Schoenstatt Missionary Motorcyclist to Mary. In the letter, in imitation of John Pozzobon, they committed themselves to Mary to “visit, pray and to take joy to the elderly, the sick, prisoners, schools, and any place that You [Mary] take us.”

Congratulations to the Schoenstatt Missionary Motorcyclists!

Father Francisco continued with the ceremony to vest Edgardo Rivera, the leader of the club.  Then Edgardo proceeded to vest the other members: Wilma Rivera, Edgar Rodríguez and Rubén Ramos saying to each one: “[name of missionary] the Blessed Mother has heard your prayer and she has accepted it.  She only asks you to be loyal to your promise and for much prayer, and that, when there is a time of temptation and weakness that you go to her because she will never defraud you.  Congratulations Schoenstatt Missionary Motorcyclist!

The Schoenstatters who were present at the initiation ceremony were very touched, and they congratulated the recently named members of the Schoenstatt Missionary Motorcyclists Club.

Participation in the centenary celebration

The missionary motorcyclists were invited to participate in different ways as part of the centenary celebration by taking the Auxiliary Pilgrim Blessed Mother from the Shrine to the Pilgrims’ Center, and parading during the Eucharistic celebration as one of the streams of Schoenstatt’s graces that exist in Puerto Rico.
