Rio Shrine: WYD Venue for Catechesis

BRAZIL, Sr. M. Nilza. On June 6, the LOC (Local Organizing Committee) for World Youth Day (WYD) with Pope Francis published the venues where catechesis will be held during WYD from 23 to 28 July in Rio de Janeiro.

The shrine belonging to the Mother and Queen of Schoenstatt, the Redemption Tabor for the Family — where they have been sending the rosaries they prayed as part of the I Prayed this Rosary for You Campaign — was chosen as a venue for catechesis on July 24, 25, and 26 (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).

Fr. Arnaldo Rodrigues, who is responsible for the LOC’s Pastoral Preparation Department said that “catechesis is the heart of World Youth Day.” It is where young people are the closest to the bishops and have group experience of “moments of animation, prayer, preaching and questions from the pilgrims…During catechesis, young people have the opportunity of being near the catechising bishop, having their questions answered and reflecting on the theme of WYD.”

It is expected that about 1,000 young people will arrive at the shrine each morning that catechesis is offered in Portuguese, and there they will also receive their breakfast.  The names of the bishops who will be responsible for these mornings of catechesis have not yet been published.  The shrine is also close to Rio Centre, where a large number of youth will meet for catechesis and an intensive program,, including a visit by Pope Francis.
