“Heavenwards”

BELMONTE, Fr. Michael Gerber. An important step in the construction of Domus Pater Kentenich – the future pilgrim and retreat house in Rome – has been concluded: the reinforced concrete frame was completed with the raising of the roof.

“Mother, inscribe us in your heart and lead us with you heavenwards…” (Heavenwards, 384). This is how Fr. Kentenich invites us to end the day in the Evening Consecration from ‘Heavenwards.’ Schoenstatt: a movement that encourages man to aspire to the heights with his whole personality. The architecture of the future retreat house in Rome expresses this in an original way. The spiral shape of the building has a lantern at its centre with lines that unmistakably point upwards. The carpenters and builders created a masterpiece.

The next step is to furnish the interior; it is not such a long way to go until 2014. “May God’s blessing come upon all those who have consecrated themselves…” (Heavenwards, 385). May this petition in the Evening Consecration be answered for all those who in the coming weeks will have to work in the dizzying heights, those who will work on the interior of the house, and those who are working to ensure that the donations do not dry up.
