It’s never too late to sing Christmas Carols

Christmal Carols in Mulgoa, AustraliaAUSTRALIA, Sr. M. Helen Ockerby. The joy of Christ’s birth resounds throughout the world. Young and old joined the Schoenstatt choir on Monday 27, December, at Mt Schoenstatt, Sydney, Australia, in singing well known and well loved Christmas carols.

Recalling the coming of the Saviour

Group singing in SinghaleseFor those traveling for the event, no star could be seen or followed, as rain pelted down in the afternoon and evening. What did it matter that a group in a mini bus arrived late. They stayed on long after most had gone home, honouring the infant king with their songs in Singhalese.

Between each carol, paraphrased texts recalling the Christmas story form the gospel of St Luke, and interwoven with prayerful thoughts, recalled the coming of the Saviour in Bethlehem and how he is to be found today.

What we offer to the divine child in the crib

Choir led by Sr. Mary LouiseCarol after carol sung with enthusiasm and joy followed one another. It wasn’t just ten minutes at the crib but six times ten! Children robed as kings finding the divine child with Mary his mother, offered their gifts, cleverly wrapped by caring parents. All participants were then encouraged to write down happenings that occurred during 20010 that could be offered to the divine child in the crib – love that God has shown, difficulties, hurts, longings.

Having given this very personal gift, a sentence from Father Kentenich, Schoenstatt’s founder was then received.

Help us to discover your endless love for us

The concluding prayer – abridged here – was a petition:

Jesus our Saviour, born in a stable, accompany us as we approach this new year. Help us to discover your endless love for us. Mary, stay close to us, journey with us, be with us for we do not want to begin this new year alone. With you at our side our fears and doubts turn to hope and courage. Let us never doubt your presence! The small consecration prayer was then prayed together before the receiving the priestly blessing and the singing of the final carol: Angels We Have Heard On High.
