Schoenstatt persons around the world are preparing for the most important
Schoenstatt day of the whole year - October 18th -, the celebration of the
Covenant of Love, sealed by Father Kentenich and the boys in the Original Shrine
in Schoenstatt on October 18th, 1914.
October Week in Schoenstatt
In Schoenstatt, Germany, more than 1000 persons gathered for the
Annual Leaders' convention. The October Week, opened on October 15th.
The main intention of this week is to remember and relive the graces and
experiences of the 31st May, 1999 celebrations in Bellavista, Chile, and to look
forward to the beginning of the New Millennium as a challenge to joyfully share
what we experience in the covenant of love. On the stage of the Aula, where the
talks for the October Week take place, is a statue of Father Kentenich - from
the Schoenstatt Father's Father House on Mount Sion. Everyone is reminded:
Father Kentenich is the center of the Schoenstatt family. This family wants to
bring his mission to the new era. On Sunday night, the participants of the
October Week will renew the covenant with the Father and prophet, as it was
sealed on May 31st in Chile, in Schoenstatt, and at many shrines around the
world. On this night, the Father Symbol, that travelled to Chile and to many
Schoenstatt groups in the world, will be placed in the Founder Chapel.
The Adoration Church is decorated exactly as it was on May 31st. With joy
and love, the Adoration sisters arranged the flowers in the same way as they
were in May - in the colors of the Bellavista Anniversary sign -, and draped red
material in the form of a shrine as a Cenacle Shrine around the picture of the
Victress. A special gift reminding us of the 25th anniversary of the
International Schoenstatt family crowning that took place on October 20th,
1974.
The beautiful decoration made a special welcome to three persons from
Ethiopia - a mother with her two daughters - who came to Schoenstatt for the
first time on October 14th. They had visited the Original Shrine where they were
invited to write their petitions and gratitude on a sheet of paper to be placed
in the ceramic jar on the altar. Along with their friends from Fulda, the three
visited the Adoration church and the tomb of Father Kentenich. The same day,
one Schoenstatt member from Costa Rica, participating in a pilgrimage by bus,
invited the whole group to visit Schoenstatt - not finding it at once, they
ended up in Cologne, found the shrine there, and then decided to take the 1 1/2
hour detour to still try and get to Schoenstatt, just to be able to pray in the
Original Shrine.
United in the covenant
Around the world, covenant celebrations have, are, or will take place on
previous, the following or this weekend. See how:
