Brief News from Schoenstatt
On March 18th, 2000, Fr. Willi Seidemann died in Alf. He was a member of the Schoenstatt Priests' Institute and deeply attached to Schoenstatt in the Limburg diocese. For many years, he worked as diocesan leader. He felt close to Milwaukee, to Cambrai, and to the place at the river Lys where Josef Engling offered his life for Schoenstatt. In 1999, when the international Schoenstatt Movement prepared for the Anniversary of May 31st, Fr. Seidemann was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo a severe surgery. He offered everything for Schoenstatt. Short before Christmas 1999, he moved to the home for old aged people in Alf, where his friend, Schoenstatt priest Fr. Jakob Ries, lived. Fr. Ries died on January 2nd, 2000. Fr. Seidemann could not attend the funeral due to his sickness. For weeks, he consciously prepared for his going home to the Eternal Father. His great longing, a Josef Engling Memorial on Mt. Moriah, went with him during his last days.
Before Lent, 30 priests came for a retreat in House Marienau.
Schoenstatt Mothers Rottenburg-Stuttgart, Speyer, Münster, and Würzburg had retreats in Schoenstatt. Youth from the Trier diocese met in the Sonnenau.
This year, the Schoenstatt Prayer Community, associated with the Adoration Sisters in Schoenstatt, is celebrating the Golden Anniversary. Therefore, 50 representatives made a pilgrimage to Rome, starting from Schoenstatt on March 18th. Among them are participants from Sweden, and USA. The group is looking forward to the Pope's return from his pilgrimage to the Holy Land and hopes to see him on March 28th.
Father Kentenich's nameday was commemorated on March 20th (postponed due to 2nd Lent Sunday on March 19th) with a festive holy Mass in the Adoration Church at 9:30 am. The Founder Chapel was decorated with red roses and white lilies.
