(Michael Savage) 1999 marked the 10th anniversary of the building and opening of the Shrine at Campsie Glen, Scotland. Discussions asked how we should mark this occasion. As it turned out the theme was already there for us. We had been preparing to place the Scottish Father Symbol in the Shrine for some time and this seemed the best way to mark the occasion.

I had been asked to carve the Symbol almost five years ago at the request of some of the Schoenstatt families. It started out as a group project and they thought the symbol would be in place within a few months, perhaps on the anniversary of the group's consecration. As time passed it started to grow hands and feet, as all those involved started to work and pray for the whole understanding of God the Father. Other members of the movement were also drawn into the initiative and invited to take the symbol to their homes. At the beginning we did not realize that the last three years leading up to the Jubilee 2000 would have a Trinitarian theme, then it took on greater significance when we realized this year 1999 was dedicated to God the Father. The symbol has been a pilgrim to all parts of the world along with Scotland and England it has seen the Original Shrine in Germany, South Africa, the Dominican Republic and Fr. Kentenich's exile home in Milwaukee, USA.

since it is made of wood it has a very tactile feel and everyone wanted to give it a good rub, we have it on video the Pope giving it a good touchy feelly blessing when a group took it to Rome.

It's travels ended on the Saturday night 18th September 1999 when after a weekend of discussions , prayers and workshops the Scottish families formally placed it at the top of the altar in the shrine during Mass.
