SCHOENSTATT, lmj/mkf. On August 5th, the General Chapter of the Institute that began on July 16th ended with a coronation prepared by the Schoenstatt Institute of Families. All the member families of the Institute simultaneously carried out the coronation–some in their home shrines, some in their local Shrines, while others came to the Shrine in Schoenstatt. "Nazareth Immaculata Patris Queen" was the title with which the Institute chose to crown the Mother Thrice Admirable in the "Home Shrine of the Institute" in House Nazareth in Schoenstatt: "Nazareth our home; Our Queen, glorify yourself."The celebration began with a well-attended and festive Mass in the Adoration Church. "It was moving to see how the older Germans of the founding generation were touched to see the fruits of their giving of self," commented a couple from South America. "To see us, that is to say! To see all the younger families from so many countries who now form the Institute and who are assuming responsibility." During the Mass, different choirs took turns: Latin, German, Czech, as well as a youth choir. All the richness of the international community was seen, heard, and very much enjoyed. Each of the different regions had brought their respective crown, and there was a large variety of symbols of giving of one’s self to the Queen. After the Mass, everyone went out towards House Nazareth carrying flags, crowns, and other symbols for the crowning. The night before, the participants of the chapter went in procession to the Original Shrine where they expressed their gratitude to the MTA for all her closeness and help during the chapter meeting. During the Chapter sessions, some 30 couples, representing the couples in the 14 countries where the Institute exists, dealt with topics such as: the structure and mission of the Institute of Families, a pastoral approach to the family for our times, and achieving efficient cooperation between the communities of the Schoenstatt Family Work for the good of Schoenstatt as a whole, especially with respect to the many families in search of a new marriage and family spirituality. New General Leaders electedDuring the last week of the session, the General Chapter also chose its new leaders for the period of 2006-2012. The leaders chosen are the following families:
Father Horacio Sosa Carbó from Argentina was named Spiritual Advisor. In addition to the families making up the General Leaders, the Chapter created a council for the General Course Leader for the family. Those elected to the council were the following families:
The previous General Superiors, Anneliese and Francisco Nuño, assumed the task of custodians of Matri Ecclesiae Shrine in Belmonte, Rome. This post was formerly held by Terezinha and Nivaldo Abram, who have returned to Brazil. A historic pilgrimageOn Sunday, July 16th, the Schoenstatt Institute of Families had begun its 6th General Chapter with a Mass in the Shrine of the Institute Our Lady of Schoenstatt . It was in this same place that on January 7, 1968, Father Kentenich proclaimed to the families of the first course: "A new work is finished. Thanks be to God!" In that same spirit, the chapter families renewed their consecration contract—the same that was made on the Anniversary of the Founding. Immediately following, the shrine surged with a festive atmosphere, as everyone sang and told stories about the events surrounding the founding. There were songs in French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, English and Czech. There was so much joy that no one wanted the ceremony to end. The chapter families were also able to welcome people from Venezuela, Ecuador, Belgium, Paraguay, and the surrounding areas of Schoenstatt.A historic pilgrimageOn that Sunday afternoon, the families began the first station of a historic pilgrimage in the Shrine of the Institute of House Nazareth. From the Shrine of the Families, they went forth praying and singing. They then passed by the wayside shrine that is close to the House of the Families, and from there proceeded to the wayside shrine of the Institute on Mount Nazareth. The New Book of the Family, the scepter, and the crown from the Shrine of the Institute accompanied them on the pilgrimage. Finally, they arrived at the Chapter Hall. At the beginning of the chapter session, Mr. Nuño, General Superior, gave a broad overview of what had occurred since the time of the last General Chapter. Then, the other superior families gave reports about their work and their tasks. Throughout the last two opening sessions, each Region and each Delegation enthusiastically described the life of their respective communities. A highlight of the chapter course was the visit of Monsignor Reinhard Marx, in addition to actively participating in the Covenant Mass on July 18th."They are going to miss us in Schoenstatt," commented Mr. Mucha of Austria with a broad smile. "We filled the place with our enthusiasm!"The Families of the Institute expressed their great appreciation for the prayers that accompanied them and for the Capital of Grace that was contributed for the Chapter.
