ECUADOR, Marcelo Del Pozo. The Leaders’ Conference 2008 was held in the Guayaquil Shrine on the eve of the January 20th milestone celebration. The family from Ecuador is preparing for two great jubilees of 2010 and, October 18, 2014, the former commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Schoenstatt’s arrival to this country. To emphasize these events, they have chosen the motto for the next two years: Ignite us for the Mission, we proclaim the Shrine. In this way they will move in the direction that the 5th Conference of Aparecida has proposed to our people so that we may be "Disciples and Missionaries". Close to 200 people attended the conference during January 18th and 19th. Ecuadorian leaders and advisers discussed several topics including the role of the Movement, Proclaiming the Shrine, and the meaning of the charism of Ecuadorian Narcisa de Jesus, who has been beatified and will be canonized in 2008 by the Holy Father, Benedict XVI. Bishop Néstor Herrera, President of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference, who was present in Aparecida, spoke about the relevant conclusions of the Conference. Father Humbero Salgado presented an excellent motivational introduction, and Sister Maria Emilia Loor spoke about the work of the Pilgrim MTA. She encouraged the participants to participate in the "welcoming" pastoral for pilgrims who come to the Guayaquil Shrine. Living ShrineA memorable event at the Conference was the photo taken of the participants who posed in the shape of a "Living Shrine." The picture was taken on the exact site the new Ciudad Celeste Shrine will be built a few kilometers from Guayaquil in the Samborondón area. Translation: Celina Garza, Harlingen, TX, USA |
