AUSTRALIA, Sr. Lisette. On the feast of the Queenship of Mary, Confirmation candidates from St. Francis Xavier parish "Chi Roh" faith education classes and those from Xavier Catholic School gathered in the church, with parents and parishioners, for a special liturgy. The liturgy was prepared and presented by the candidates under the guidance of Sr. Lisette of the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary. "The candidates have already prepared and experienced this liturgy in the Schoenstatt Shrine," said Sr. Lisette, "But, through their Confirmation, they are becoming adult members of the parish faith community, so I think it’s important that they offer this beautiful experience for the parish, here in the church and the feast day is appropriate too." Before the altar, small marble hearts were laid out in the form of a rosary. Each one held a beautiful rose and a space to support a candle. The candles of the crucifix were already lit as the Liturgy began. A visible symbol of the prayers and petitions of all those presentFive mysteries were selected from the twenty possible choices and each was introduced, in turn, by one of the confirmation candidates giving a brief scriptural quotation before announcing the mystery. The prayers of each mystery were led by eleven different members of the congregation who came, in turn, to the altar steps, announced a petition and led the first part of the Our Father or Hail Mary. As the congregation completed the prayer, that person inserted a candle in the appropriate position in the "rosary" before the altar. At the end many petitions had been offered for the candidates, their families and sponsors, the parish, the church and the world .The sanctuary glowed with a truly Luminous Rosary, a visible symbol of the prayers and petitions of all those present; that our youth be empowered by the Holy Spirit to carry the Church into the future. This was the first time luminous or Illuminated Rosary was prayed in a Parish in West Australia, I do believe in the whole of Australia. The Illuminated Rosary comes from the Schoenstatt Rosary Campaign in Argentina, and is well-known in all the countries of South America where the Rosary Campaign initiated by John Pozzobon is strongly present. In the year of the Rosary, it was picked up in Europe by the Professional Women's League of Northern Germany and spread in Germany and beyond. The Illuminated Rosary offered in the Adoration Church on June 30 inspired Sr. Lisette to introduce this way of praying a "living rosary" in Australia. |
