ARGENTINA, Laura and Marcelo Salvarani. On May 25th, a day in which the radiant sun eased the cold weather of the journey, members of the Schoenstatt Family gathered as a Movement in the Shrine of " Our Lady of Luján" –the National Shrine dedicated to the Patroness of Argentina – to renew the crowning of the Blessed Mother as Queen of the National Family.
"The Schoenstatt Shrines should contribute to the life of other Marian shrines in the country, especially Luján," Father Joseph Kentenich stressed on June 9, 1947 when he visited the Shrine of Luján in Argentina, thereby entrusting this mission to all the Argentinean Schoenstatters. To make this a reality, on May 25, 1988 the picture of the Mother Thrice Admirable Queen and Victress of Schoenstatt was crowned as Queen of the National Family in the crypt of the Basilica of "Our Lady of Luján", the Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement of the Archdiocese of Mercedes – Luján renewed this crowning on May 25, 2007 just like in previous years.
Within the framework of the great national celebration in which the commemoration of the first national government is celebrated, people gathered at 10:00 a.m. in the crypt of the Basilica where the Mother Thrice Admirable Queen and Victress of Schoenstatt is enthroned to pray the Holy Rosary. Allies from the host Diocese: Mercedes, Luján, Chacabuco, Jáuregui; as well as those from the Central Shrine and Belgrano attended; "Nuevo Schoenstatt" (the national Schoenstatt Shrine) were also present with the participation of some Sisters of Mary carrying the Auxiliary MTA that belongs to the National Schoenstatt Shrine.
After the rosary, they processed to the chapel of the crypt, with the picture of the Blessed Mother raised high among the midst of songs and guitars. They placed the picture at the foot of the altar accompanied by Auxiliary MTA’s of the Diocese of Mercedes-Luján, the Father Shrine, as well as the Pilgrim MTAs brought by their missionaries.
Before the celebration of the Holy Mass, a brief text summarized and extracted from the little book, Queen of the National Family, narrating the history and the significance of this current crowning was read. Then Father Tomás Ostolaza, Federation Father, pastor of "Our Lady of Assumption" of Chacbuco, celebrated Holy Mass. In his homily, he stressed the importance of the words of Father Kentenich: "The Schoenstatt Shrines should contribute to the life of other Marian shrines in the country, especially Luján" – Father Tomas went on to say that by bringing others close to Mary, Jesus, and God the Father we implement our charism.
At the feet of Our Lady of Luján
"After Mass, we went in procession again with the picture of the MTA to the place where She is enthroned, singing Hymn of the Family and with a prayer we again crowned Her as the Queen our COUNTRY needs so that we can build and live like a large FAMILY. We sang the National Anthem of Argentina with profound emotion and in a loud voice we petitioned Mary three times: Queen of the National Family –Accept the crown!" Laura and Marcelo Salvarani, local leaders, said enthusiastically. Then, cookies in the shape of the shrine were blessed after the Mass and were distributed.
It was a very cordial occasion, which was extended by having lunch at a pizzeria where they continued sharing personal experiences and had much discussion about the tasks to be undertaken for the growth and organization at the diocesan level especially the Rosary Campaign. Future meetings during the year were scheduled for the different communities of the diocese for continued growth and to make the diocesan, regional, and National Movement aware of the importance of this renewal of placing the crown every May 25th at the feet of the Blessed Mother of Luján to revitalize the National Mission: "With Mary, a Family of the Father."
