HUNGARY, Father Otto Maurer. Eight Romanian priests met once again in the Shrine of Óbudovár, Hungary, to participate in a conference lasting several days. This group encountered Schoenstatt twelve years ago during their time of priestly formation, which was how they came to know about Father Kentenich and the Schoenstatt Apostolic League of Diocesan Priests.
Father Otto Maurer, a member of the Schoenstatt Institute of Diocesan Priests in Germany, organizes a meeting with them every year as he also did this year. Representing the Schoenstatt Apostolic League of Diocesan Priests, Father Adam Possmayer, and a Swabian from Banat (Swabian settlers who lived in the region of Banta which now belongs to Hungary, Romania, and Serbia) who works in Birkenfel, close to Wurzburg, Germany was also present. During this encounter the following Romanian priests participated: Fathers Kapor János, Melegh Péter, Balogh László, Miklos Csaba, Ciubotaru Simion, Jakab Lajos, Eros Miklos, and Király Arpád.
The subject that they delved into deeply during this conference is essential for Schoenstatt spirituality and for the League of Priests: "With faith in Divine Providence, seeking God and finding Him in all events, things, and persons through the Covenant of Love with Mary, living in truth and deed the Covenant with God. Above all, striving to work in the present world and in the parishes using the spirituality of Father Kentenich.
Work with the families
A spirit of fraternal community marked the conference. There was a special emphasis on this during the celebration of the Eucharist in the Shrine, especially when Father Possmayer celebrated in Hungarian. Mr. Godany, director of the center, proved to be a brilliant interpreter. The leader of the Schoenstatt Men’s Branch from the Diocese of Eichstatt, Germany, Mr. Waldemar Stemle, accompanied by his wife, were in charge of the trips and the kitchen.
Mrs. Margethe Mieger, a member of the Insititue of Our Lady of Schoenstatt, contributed several things for this Conference and she took care of the families. Last but not least, we cannot forget Sister M. Aquila, a Schoenstatt Sister of Mary, who always had everything concerning the Conference under control.
This League of Romanian priests wants to strengthen the work with families and they also aspire to have a Shrine in their diocese very soon.
