INTERNATIONAL, Stefanie Frank. The great day arrived! Last weekend (August 26th-27th) the Night of the Shrine attracted about three hundred youth who participated in the Midnight Holy Mass in the Original Shrine. But it was not only Schoenstatt that celebrated this very special night. Many youth gathered in all the world around their daughter Shrines – about 70 – to simultaneously pray with the youth gathered in Schoenstatt without being concerned about the difference of time in their respective countries. Who and how did they celebrate? Here is the response.

The world Network of the Night of the Shrine worked! It can be affirmed. Youth from all the world were united on the night of Saturday to Sunday responding to the call: "Youth of all the world United!" They simultaneously celebrated Midnight Mass (Europe central time) in about 70 shrines. Some had to get up very early to pray at the same time.

Austria was the first country that reported. Switzerland also reported.

Austria was the first country to send photos of their Night of the Shrine. They sent them Saturday. In this way the rest of the world could see how Vienna celebrated this event through the Internet.

Raphael Kolic, from Austria, was in Vienna and he related: "More than thirty enthusiastic youth from all over Austria participated in the program, which lasted until dawn. What impressed this young man the most? "I liked the idea of celebrating the Holy Mass simultaneously with youth from 26 countries from all the continents, and to be united through the Shrine", said Raphael, and he continued: "During the Eucharistic celebration, I constantly recalled that at this moment maybe more than a thousand youth were also participating in a Holy Mass".

And Raphael concludes by writing: "I hope that this night was a motivation for everyone to commit themselves to Schoenstatt in the future".

Switzerland was also united with the Original Shrine. Over there the youth gathered in the Shrine of Brig to spend the night in community. There were workshops, they sealed Covenants of Love and the Holy Mass was celebrated in front of the Shrine, everything was same as in Schoenstatt. There was something original in Brig, which was appropriate for a worldwide bonding: the youth hung pictures of the daughter Shrines of the world on a rope to represent the bond with them and with the youth who were celebrating the same event on this night.

South America also responded to the convocation

In the wayside shrine of Goya –Corrientes, Argentina – they not only gathered the youth to pray the rosary, rather all the Schoenstatt Family of the place gathered. Inés writes: "The fascinating thing is that we were mutually attached at the same time and we thought about one another". The youth from Puerto Rico did not miss the Night of the Shrine: "Our Night of the Shrine was truly original. There were close to one hundred people and the majority of them were new. They were truly happy to be at the Shrine for the first time", wrote Yaitza, from Cabo Rojo. The night of the Shrine was also celebrated in the Shrine in Hatillo, Puerto Rico.

Brazil was also present at their Shrines of Santo Angelo (0824), Guarapuava (08223) and of Jaraguá (0832) and Ecuador in the Shrine of Guayaquil (0825). The way it was organized and how they carried out can be read in the corresponding articles and the many photos that they sent can also be seen.

Rosario Lara Marañon, a young girl from Tandil, Argentina, who initiated Schoenstatt Summer, who was a volunteer in the Press Office, attached herself from her Homeshrine with prayers for the youth of all the world.

Crete also celebrated, although they do not have a Shrine. In India: at dawn

Amy Waddle from Nebraska, United States, also united herself to the celebration although there is no Shrine in her city of Crete. This did not stop the youth from participating in this Night of the Shrine. They celebrated in the Homeshrine of the Schoenstatt Movement in Nebraska, which is a Chapel that already has the altar for their future Schoenstatt Shrine.

The youth in India met at dawn: they gathered at 3:30 a.m. in the Shrine to adore Jesus and to pray the rosary.

In the same way Australia participated, celebrating the "Night" in the light of day (0827).

The Shrines in Bolivia, Burundi, Chile, The Dominican Republic, England, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Paraguay, the Philippine Islands, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, the Czech Republic also attached themselves spiritually. The news from the national Shrine from Argentina did not arrive, where the youth gathered in the Shrine – because they could not communicate because the telephone cables in all the area of Florencio Varela were stolen…It is a good thing that the in the network of shrines, the cables cannot be stolen…
