SCHOENSTATT, Maria del Rosario Lara Maranon/mkf. Spring has arrived in Schoenstatt. Among the cold, the rain and the fleeting appearances of the sun you can see the first flowers and hear the song of the birds...and you see the first buses that arrive from different places in Germany. The Youth Masses start up again on Friday nights, and besides the youth from several countries, there are journeys, retreats, and workshops...in a word: the pilgrims have returned!

"The Sisters celebrated some anniversary", commented the Pallottine Brother, who is charge of the Original Shrine. His comment was in response to a question posed by Austrian Alois Hirschumugl who asked why the Original Shrine was so abundantly adorned with roses and lilies on the morning of the 25 March. "That is why I wanted the most beautiful flowers" continued the Brother. On the morning of the 25 March, a holy Mass was celebrated in the Original Shrine commemorating the founding of three provinces of the Sisters of Mary in Germany sixty years ago. There were many activities on that day: a workshop for the communities of the Family Work about subjects related to the Family Shrine, a retreat of the Professionals with Father Angel Strada, the annual encounter for the couples that had been together in the course for engaged couples many years ago, a large journey of the Mothers’ Branch, a retreat for children preparing for First Communion, a journey for the leaders of the Schoenstatt Centers in Germany, a journey of representatives of the Movements…Families from Chile and from Mexico arrived.

Youth Mass in Schoenstatt

The Schoenstatt Youth held its Eucharistic celebration on Friday, March 24, in the chapel of the Pilgrim House. It was international, with the majority of the events in the "beautiful place". This time there were eight representatives present from Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Bolivia, India, and Mexico.

With a bit of improvisation and much providence, the songs were marvelous. One guitar was enough to unite everyone in the song: "Say yes"…this is the turning point that leads to triumph.

The Blessed Mother said the same thing on the day of the Annunciation. And this was the message that everyone mediated on in their hearts. (Let us keep praying to the Holy Spirit for Father Lothar Herter because his talent for languages is admirable and he is a good host!)

Later, all of the youthful euphoria was transferred to the doors of the Original Shrine where the Blessed Mother was given a special greeting and the Covenant with Her was renewed. Not even the rain and the cold, which certainly was not spring like, could stop these youth.

But it did not end there, who knows what happened next? The group of eight said "yes" in loud and convincing voices to Father Lothar Herter’s invitation. The many games, rich foods, and laughter prolonged the night even more. Of course there were good reasons! Soon "Schoenstatt Summer" will begin. We are searching for a logo with a sun, and the sun should be a certain size, and there are disagreements about the least significant things and all along, the preparations are moving fast. Haven’t you noticed how large the sun is?

A family business and a family of businesses

The Blessed Mother gathers her Family in Schoenstatt, Germany and each day it is a bit larger. Alois and Elfriede Hirschmugl with Barbara Schubert, an employee of their business, came from Sittendorf, Austria for their encounter. They have a family business and they want to form themselves to be a model business and family inspired by Father Joseph Kentenich. He is the one they chose as the manager of their business that produces detergents, industrial oils, and base coats for wood made from recycled natural resources that are free of raw components such allergen substances.

Their vision is "To be a Kentenich business where work is carried out according to the principles of the Father and the Manager". Five years ago they invited the Blessed Mother to their business, erecting their "Office Shrine". That transformed act changed the business into a place of shelter, transformation and sending out business. A little after an article appeared in Schoenstatt.de about the Blessed Mother’s work in the Hirschmugl business and the Abella Family was inspired to do the same thing in their family business, Abella Tambos" in Tandil, Argentina. What a surprise it was for the Hirschmugls to meet Maria del Rosario, from Tandil, in the Press Office. Helena Abella is in the same group of mothers that their aunt belongs to.

It is incredible to see the passion, the initiative and the professionalism with which they live this project of love…and it is because with the Blessed Mother, everything has another meaning, doesn’t it? They were in Schoenstatt to work on subjects about Public Relations for their business and their products.

You are invited to make the test in your home and then share your stories through this medium, so that others will be inspired, especially in the business world. Write to alois@hirschmugl.net

Youth visiting the Father Kentenich House

A group of volunteers of the Schoenstatt Girls’ Youth went up the mountain. They could not arrive on time to their destination even if they were Schumacher. Where were they going? To an encounter with Father Joseph Kentenich. They visited the Father Kentenich House. They were determined to learn more about the Fathe rand Founder and the origin of the movement.

It is a great gift of providence to have been in Germany, and the rest of the Schoenstatt Family back home anxiously awaits their return so that they could hear news about what they had learned. Adjusting their watches, on Fridays they will meet again with Sister Adriana who will explain more about making your Home a living place of learning and of encounter with the person of Father Kentenich.
