USA, Christi Jentz. Urged on by calls from Pope Benedict XVI to improve our bible knowledge, the Wisconsin Schoenstatt family embarked on a new adventure. Under the leadership of Federation couple Norm and Betty Schultz, along with a dedicated group of movement volunteers, a full day of biblical learning was successfully presented to a full house at St Vincent Pallotti East Parish (formerly Holy Cross Church).

The theme of the one-day seminar, The Great Adventure - a Bible Timeline Seminar, was offered by the renowned Catholic bible scholar Jeff Cavins. Cavins, also known for his EWTN television program, "Life on the Rock", and his popular Catholic books, proved to be equally entertaining and thorough in presenting his innovative approach to bible study.

It is the wish of the Schoenstatt family to integrate the Great Adventure bible study program into the meetings of leadership groups and encourage more Catholic bible study in broader circles of the community. One of the themes that Cavins particularly emphasized is that of the Covenant between God and his people. As people of the Covenant of Love, we are particularly interested in this aspect. We want to confidently explain our Covenant history and its origins to others.

Many people attending the seminar made their first contact with the Schoenstatt Movement. It was an excellent opportunity for Dick Magliocco, the Men’s Diocesan Leader, to open the day with a brief introduction to the history of Schoenstatt. All were invited to visit the Exile shrine, which is located on the St Vincent Pallotti East grounds.

A letter from Archbishop Dolan

Early in the planning of this event, the Schoenstatt Fathers received encouragement from Milwaukee’s Archbishop Dolan with regard to this undertaking.

He wrote:

"My Dear Schoenstatt Family:

I am grateful for your timely and providential catechetical initiative in promoting the promising Bible Seminar, "The Great Adventure."

This very year we celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Dei Verbum, the inspired teaching of the second Vatican Council on the power of God’s Holy word. What better time to invite Catholics to deepen their appreciation for Sacred Scripture?

Please know of my high interest in and enthusiastic support of this project.

With prayerful best wishes, I remain,

Faithfully in Christ,

Most Reverand Timothy M. Dolan
