INTERNATIONAL. mkf. The Schoenstatt Movement has a special bond with John Paul II - that is also expressed in a special edition of "Vinculo" (=bond): the magazine of the Movement in Chile whose May edition contains 24 pages in color in honor of John Paul II, with the title: "He loved the Church". Father Mariano Irureta writes in the editorial: "Without a doubt, but above all of praise and gratitude for the gift of his paternity and sanctity. Through this issue of Vinculo and its pages, we want to elevate our gratitude for these 25 years of his Pontificate, renewing ourselves in the Marian charisma of our Father and Founder, so that his grace and blessing will reach everyone".

Statues of John Paul II are already being made in Poland, in Uruguay and in Parguay; in Italy, a hill, the Termini station in Rome and in the countryside "Tor Vergata" (where the final Mass for World Youth Day 2000 was held) were re-baptized with the name of "Giovanni Paolo II" . Germany will launch an edition of stamps with the picture of John Paul II on May 17th, as they did in Poland, Croatia, Austria and also other countries. The Post Office of Germany affirms in its official bulletin: "John Paul II would have desired to participate in World Youth Day in Cologne this year, to which he invited all the youth of the world".

The Focolar magazine for countries where German is spoken, paid homage to John Paul II in the May editionwith 23 extra pages which contanined references to his pontificate, stressing among other things, "the Pope and the movement". For its part, the Communion and Liberation Movement, in Italy, published and extra edition of its international magazine, "Tracce", 66 pages, with a summary of all the encounters the Holy Father had with this community.

John Paul II's talks and encounters with Schoenstatt

Of course, every Schoenstatt publication had a picture of John Paul II, and he was honored in multiple articles, testimonies, photos...from the magazine "Tuparenda", from Paraguay, to the "Schoenstatt Family Magazine", from England. In Germany, the magazine "Basis" was dedicated almost exclusively to the pontificate of John Paul II, and "Schoenstatt Aktuell", the monthly magazine of the German movement with the summary of the articles published in Schoenstatt.de, dedicated several pages to John Paul II.

The magazine, "Vinculo", contained articles and testimonies of Cardinal Errazuriz, of Fathers Joaquin Alliende and Alberto Eronti, the Munzemayer family (members of the Pontifical Council of the Family), of Magdalena Ossadon, Sister Eugenia Maria Munoz and of Cristina Quiroz de Tagle. But the most impressive was the compilation of all the talks (apparently) that the Holy Father John Paul II directed to the Schoenstatt Movement, its branches and communities, accompanied by the most beautiful photos

that brought back unforgettable memories...

It starts with the memorable words that he said in Fulda, Germany, on the 17th of November of 1980, in which for the first time Father Kentenich's name was mentioned publicly, in the context of his homily to the German priests, deacons, and seminarians, during his first visit to Germany. The next thing is the encounter of the General Chapter of the Schoenstatt Fathers in 1980 (accompanied by the famous photo of Father Alex Menningen with the Unity Cross in front of the Holy Father), the texts of the two great encounters of the International Movement with the Holy Father, in 1985 and 2004, the talks directed to the International Congress of the Sisters of Mary in 1990, a report in the Osservatore Romano about the blessing of the Shrine in Kaszlin (in 1991, before schoenstatt.de existed) and of the visit to the Cor Ecclesiae Shrine in the year 2000, two talks to the Girls' Youth (1984 and 1989), and two talks to the Federation Families, the second of which took place on the 20th of January of this year, which was to be the last great audience with the Holy Father in life...

Postcards and stamps of John Paul II

As a tribute to the Holy Father, John Paul II, Editorial Patris Argentina launched a wide collection of postcards and bookmarks of John Paul II, among them, three with the Shrine or picture of the MTA, where a young John Paul is seen praying, blessing, smiling, greeting...A postcard gives testimony to his visit to Argentina in 1987, with his signature on the back and the quotation of the letter to the Romans: "He who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law". John Paul II, this Pope so loved by all, has fulfilled his days on earth, but he continues to spread his love through his words, his gestures, and above all, through the indelible mark he left on all a generation, in all the Church, and in the Schoenstatt Movement.

Pope Benedict XVI said Friday, May 13, he had opened the process for the sainthood of Pope John Paul II, overriding the usual five-year waiting period following the death of a possible candidate.

The pope made the announcement in Latin during a meeting with Roman clergy at the Basilica of St. John Lateran.

The announcement came on the anniversary of a 1981 assassination attempt against John Paul in St. Peters square.

Benedict's announcement drew a standing ovation from the Roman priests.

The pope read a letter in which the Vatican official in charge of sainthood, Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins, announced that Benedict himself had authorized the beginning of John Paul's path to sainthood.

"And now I have a very joyous piece of news for you," Benedict said in Italian before making the announcement. Benedict, who had been seated, stood up to join the clergy in applauding the major tribute to his predecessor.
