Schoenstatt: October Week

With fewer participants than in the other years- 725 persons - in order to increase the efficiency of work, the German Leaders' Convention will take in Schoenstatt under the motto: With the God of Life for the Future of Love. October 18 will be marked by the presentation of various Apostolic Initiatives. The following day of research and study is focused on Father Kentenich's sight of human sexuality in the framework of recent developments. On the background of the widespread insecurity in the aftermath of the September 11 events, the delegates will specially work on the "pendulum security", as Father Kentenich called the security in a merciful and ever loving God experienced in life and in the world of the shrines, experienced amidst and even through human insecurity.

87th Anniversary of Schoenstatt's Founding – First Anniversary of the Covenant of Love in the new millennium

All over the world, Schoentatt members and friends gather around the over 170 Schoenstatt Shrines, wayside Shrines, Schoenstatt chapels and home shrines to celebrate the founding day of Schoenstatt. On October 18, 1914, Father Kentenich and a group of students sealed in the old St.Michael's Chapel in Schoenstatt the Covenant of Love with Mary, the Mother Thrice Admirable. This Covenant of Love is the center of Schoenstatt's spirituality and the grace behind the world of Shrines, the unifying bond for the worldwide Schoenstatt family – whether the celebrants on this day are a multitude of over 40,000 in Tuparenda, Paraguay, 30,000 in Quéretaro, Mexico, or ten or twelve in Korea, New Zealand, Senegal, of Cuba. In Schoenstatt, at the place of origin, a Holy Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 PM in the Pilgrims' Church, followed by a candle light procession to the Original Shrine. After the Covenant renewal by the Shrine, the Shrine will be open for adoration all night; the adoration is held specially for world peace.

Paraguay: 20th Anniversary of the Shrine in Tuparenda: "Dear Mother, count on me. Dear country, I am here!"

For Schoenstatt in Paraguay, the year 2001 is important as the Shrine in Tuparenda (which in Guaraní, the native language of this country, means: Home of God) has twenty years on come October 18, 2001. These 20 years of sacrifice, fights, contributions to the capital of grace and much work were not in vain as Schoenstatt succeeded to touch the hearts of all to join forces "to build the Nation of God in the heart of America". The novena for the preparation of "the faithful of Paraguay" for the feast on October 18 is announced by the leading South American news agency. Abundant life around the Shrine in Tuparenda is a witness of Schoenstatt's mission. On October 18, Father Antonio Cosp will be the main celebrant in the Holy Mass at 9:00AM. Bishop Claudio Giménez will preside over the Mass at 4:00 PM, and Bishop Adalberto Martínez will celebrate the Mass at 8:00 PM. All day, confession and benediction of holy items are offered. For the Mass at 4:00 PM – for the old aged and sick – shuttle buses and cars are provided from Asunción and other places. All three holy Masses will be celebrated by the portal of the future Church of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity so the Shrine can be open all day for the pilgrims. Approximately 40,000 pilgrims are expected to join in the feast of the Shrine. As a sign of gratitude for the 20 years of the Shrine, the Schoenstatt Rosary Campaign will attach a small white jewel to their Pilgrim Mother pictures in memory of their visit to the Shrine on this special day.
