BRAZIL, Sr. M. Rosequiel Fávero. "I only feel important when I am kneeling in your shrine of spiritual education." These words originally uttered by the servant of God, João Pozzobon, were repeated by Fr. Argemiro Ferraccioli, the postulator of his cause for canonization, at the conclusion to his pronouncement during the solemn session that closed the diocesan phase of the process on Friday 8 May, at the large and beautiful Medianeira Basilica. These words expressed the extent to which the small shrine belonging to Schoenstatt’s Mother Thrice Admirable was a home and school for him and where João Pozzobon’s great teacher led him to sanctity. For this reason, nothing could be more fitting than to celebrate the conclusion to this very important part of the process at the shrine. On Saturday 9 May, members of the Movement’s various communities filled the Tabor Shrine to bursting for a thanksgiving Mass. The liturgy was prepared by the Schoenstatt Girls’ Youth. The highlight of the celebration was the procession to the Shrine where representatives of the Schoenstatt communities brought several boxes of documents to the altar, before our Mother Thrice Admirable. Apostolic WindFr. Antônio Bracht, who presided over the celebration, drew a historic parallel with the 31st of May. Sixty years ago, on the 31st of May 1949, our father and founder of the Schoenstatt Movement, Fr. Joseph Kentenich, placed an important document on the altar of the shrine in Bellavista, Chile. The document presented the Church with Schoenstatt’s proposed path for sanctity – child-likeness. Today, six decades later, another document, not only presenting, but proving this path, has been placed before the Mother and Queen of Schoenstatt, crowned as the Queen of Heroic Child-likeness by Fr. Kentenich in 1949. João Pozzobon’s sanctity, lived in the covenant of love he sealed in this shrine, is the ‘document’ proving that Schoenstatt’s spirituality can produce saints. At the end of the Mass, the youth processed out of the shrine carrying pilgrim mothers and candles, inviting all those present to take with them the flame of the Marian mission that also burnt within João Pozzobon’s heart. Fr. Bracht had said the previous day: "Pozzobon is an echo. A strong and palpable echo of the Word of God: ‘You are the light of the world!’ When the wind blows across the pampas where Pozzobon lived and acted, the echo travels far. We are the ‘wind’ that goes beyond the pampas, beyond the Pope, so that the world can feel it." If the wind that blows through the fields of Rio Grande do Sul is known for its cold temperature, then the ‘apostolic wind’ that inspires those who want to inherit João Pozzobon’s mission should be warm and embracing so that it can create a "missionary storm," as desired by the ‘post-Aparecida’ Church in Latin America. These missionary disciples are formed in the shrine through the covenant of love with Mary. Like João Pozzobon, these people are ‘living documents’ who give a testimony to the Church and the world that the Schoenstatt Movement is a path to sanctity, a gift from God in our times. The documents will arrive May 18 in Rome, and will be passed on May 20. Translation: Sarah-Leah Pimentel, Johannesburg, South Africa |
