CONFERENCE 2014, Georg Schick. Three months have already passed since Conference 2014. Spring followed winter and the vegetation has showed its annual transformation: the first intense green and flowers have appeared. The fruits of Conference 2014 are also prospering and developing. Not a week passes that I do not recall the Conference. For me, this project began in the spring of 2008. During a brief conversation at a Catholic Conference in Osnabruck and as a result of a response about engraving on my part, I was invited –through Sister Kornelia – to participate on the central team that prepared the Conference. It was some time before the complete team met for the first time. From the beginning, it was clear that it was about a "sportive" schedule: it meant organizing a conference of this magnitude, as well as continuing with the usual tasks or professional work for each one of the team members. So, the distance from Swabia to Schoenstatt not only kept me from getting fully involved; it was also a very full schedule of commitments at the business where I work.

However, it was always clear to me that this was a unique, historic event. Our central team was also very committed, especially with the leadership of Father José Maria Garcia and Sister M. Luciane Machens, which continually inspired me to carry out this task.

I worked for three weeks at Schoenstatt

The time of preparation flew, and on January 25th, I checked into a guest room at the Federation of Mothers’ Marienland House. In spite of already having much experience in Schoenstatt with the organization of events, for me it was something new to work for three weeks at Schoenstatt, although I was alone, since for different reasons, I could not find an assistant for my area of work. Although in the end, I was not alone!

The week of preparation was characterized by excellent team work in Schoenstatt. Many people from several countries collaborated so that the Conference would be a success. A great joy and enthusiasm could be felt throughout Schoenstatt. The Father Kentenich House was prepared for the event, technological installations were made, work material was prepared, etc, etc. We simply wanted for the international delegates to feel good at Schoenstatt during the Conference.

At the beginning, I was alone at breakfast, but day after day, Schoenstatt began to fill with more and more international participants for the Conference. There was multiple diversity and unlimited collaboration among everyone. The Conference could now begin.

The atmosphere of the Conference made us forget about the few hours of rest

For me, the Conference itself was characterized by long days and short nights, but the atmosphere that reigned made me forget that. The participants, the collaborators and the organizers worked hand in hand with complete generosity. They checked into the place in Schoenstatt with an enthusiasm and an expectant joy before the year 2014. Along with a solid foundation to prepare for the jubilee of 2014 and throughout this week, many new friends and contacts were established during the meetings.

The end of the Conference, just like the beginning, was held at the place of the jubilee: the Original Shrine, and that is how an historic event concluded at Schoenstatt.

One by one the delegates returned to their countries. The meeting place had to be restored, and the material had to be removed. Then, I also returned to my daily life after a three week stay at Schoenstatt.

But is this Conference already only history?

I work professionally in developing international projects, but this Conference has marked me, and it will always be a milestone in my life.

The collaboration – and the mutual understanding – among the different cultures, the diverse presentations, the absolute commitment of everyone, the help of the youth from several countries, the translators, the leaders of the house of the place, the organizers…all of them have filled me with enthusiasm.

I experienced an International Schoenstatt Family that is not only happy about the anniversary of 2014; but it also wants to seriously prepare itself for this event. I am delighted to belong to this International Schoenstatt Family, and I have great expectations for everything that we will do together to prepare for 2014!

I am very grateful and satisfied for having had the experience of this Conference, and for having lived many moments which I will carry in my heart and which I still do not completely understand…

So, after three months, the Conference is not only historic; rather, it continues to live in many people throughout the world.
