SCHOENSTATT, mkf. The first winter snow fell on Saturday, November 22nd…and although it happens each year when the first snow falls, it is still impressive to see this entire holy place completely white…

It was a special joy for the few pilgrims and volunteers from South America – a family from Chile, youth from Argentina, Mexico and Brazil to experience Schoenstatt covered with snow!

The gift to the world

For almost forty years since Father Kentenich’s death, November 18th has been something special in that we celebrate his birthday on this day. Although it became known last year that his birthday was really November 16th –the day it was celebrated during his life – there is so much history attached to November 18th, that here in Schoenstatt as well as other places, we continue to remember him today. A documentation error that occurred 123 years ago in Gymnich has led to this confusion, and gives us two days to celebrate the birth of our Father and Founder.

In Schoenstatt, Father Ludwig Lipp the main celebrant of the Covenant Mass invited us to express special gratitude to Katherine Kentenich, Father’s mother, whose "yes" to the life of her baby has given the world this Father and Prophet who God chose as an instrument to fulfill a mission that we are just beginning to understand.

After renewing the Covenant of Love in the Original Shrine united to all of you, everyone proceeded to the bonfire where the papers containing contributions to the Capital of Grace from the Shrines’ jars in Schoenstatt were burned. Cassio Leal of the Boys’ Youth from Brazil and Sister Luz Maria from Chile –faithful protagonists of the rosary on Saturdays –took the jar from the Original Shrine, where day by day emails are deposited with petitions for prayers, expressions of gratitude, and contributions from throughout the world.

Are any of us also willing to be included in this document?

Just as every 18th, the entire Schoenstatt Family comes together spiritually to the small Original Shrine, where everything started almost 100 years ago. Each 18th we recall and renew the grace of October 18th, 1914, the Covenant of Love with the Blessed Mother at this place in the valley of Schoenstatt, and everything that has been born from this. Preparations for the planning Conference for this great celebration of our 100th Anniversary from this humble beginning has begun; representatives of the Schoenstatt Family from allover the world will meet February 1st -7th at Schoenstatt to prepare the centennial of what Father Kentenich explained in very simple words sixty years ago in 1948, at the New Helvecia Shrine, Uruguay (thanks to the person who discovered this): "In the year 1914 – relatively a short time ago – the Blessed Mother also sealed a Covenant of Love.

This Covenant is no less than a renewal of the one in which ‘the angel of the Lord announced to Mary.’ God descended to the bosom of the Virgin and sanctified it, he wanted to make himself present in the Shrine through Mary; he wanted to make this little piece of land, a holy land, a place from which a holy movement would surge, maker of new men and of a new social order. It is She, however, who wants to use all of us who seal the Covenant of Love as instruments. The first allies –in 1914 – were a small group of boys I was with; at that moment we were your representatives. The other partner was the Mother of God. We signed that Covenant of Love, and She included everyone who would someday become incorporated into this Covenant in that document.

Are any of us also willing to be included in this document? Like Adam and Eve represented humanity at a precise moment of history, you also were represented in 1914 by those who sealed the Covenant of Love in the Shrine."

Thanks to Father Theo Abt

There was a retreat for priests at House Marienau; they met in several teams to prepare conferences that will take place next year, among them will be a conference called…Mary’s Workshop, with the aim of opening doors for those who do not Venerate the Blessed Mother..

On November 23rd, during the Pilgrims’ Mass, we bid farewell to Father Theo Abt, who served the pilgrims in Schoenstatt for twelve years. He will continue to serve with the Schoenstatt Fathers in Essen in northern Germany.

Now everything is being prepared for Advent! Once again, as usual, there will be a Christmas Concert by the group, Esperamor(Love Waits), it is a highlight every Advent that attracts many people from Vallendar and areas surrounding Schoenstatt. Furthermore, there are many workshops, conferences, and Advent retreats in several Schoenstatt Houses – In Germany it is a time that more than ever people are willing to take time to meditate, pray, and to prepare for Christmas.
