BRAZIL, maeperegrina.com.br/mkf. "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my savior." This feeling of joy and gratitude impels the Schoenstatt Family from the Diocese of Jacarezinho and Ourinhos to make the pilgrimage on October 18, 2008. This day will mark their local history with the inauguration of Tabor Shrine, Foundation of Schoenstatt in Brazil.

The Shrine is very beautiful and worthy of the Queen who established her throne of graces here. The preparations anticipate the joy of the celebration. There are twenty-two work teams; each one has a coordinator. The most demanding ones are those in charge of hospitality, family homes and information about hotels, meals for the authorities, and priests, confirmation of trips, liturgy…

Schedule for October 18th

There are only forty-six days until the long awaited October 18th. After seventy-three years of silent fruitfulness, Jacrezinho, the port of entry for Schoenstatt in Brazil, the place where the first Sisters of Mary, arriving in this land, first celebrated October 18th around a stone from the Original Shrine, finally sees the doors of its Schoenstatt Shrine open.

Delegations will be welcomed beginning at 8:30 a.m. The solemn Holy Mass of inauguration will begin at 10:00 a.m. After lunch there will be a Marian Cantata in honor of the Blessed Mother, at 4:00 p.m. a blessing with the Blessed Sacrament, a procession to the Shrine, and finally the sending forth of the pilgrims with the graces of the Tabor of the MTA.

The Schoenstatt Family from Jacarezinho is preparing for this ceremony with a novena of several months, conquering the symbols of the Shrine, month by month. In August the Tabernacle, the communion rail, and the Unity Cross were conquered.

Spiritual Conquest

The Tabernacle is an original model of the Shrine. They strived to offer Jesus, in the Eucharist, a worthy dwelling, but above all, each Schoenstatter desires to be a living tabernacle for Jesus, just like his Mother. During the month of September, they will offer the picture of Saint Michael Archangel and the stained glass windows. In October, on the last day of the tridiuum, they will offer the altarpiece with the altar. The picture of the MTA for the Shrine, blessed by the Holy Father when he visited Brazil in May of 2007, will be presented by the priests on the day of the inauguration. The Blessed Mother is the great treasure of the Shrine, because She carries Jesus, the King of the Universe, in her arms and She always leads us to Him.

The same day, another Shrine will be blessed in San Antonio, Texas, U.S.A., throughout the world – six years or 2,191 days before the Schoenstatt Centennial – the pilgrims will gather around the Shrines, expressing their gratitude to God for everything that has come forth from that little chapel in the valley of Schoenstatt. And while the Shrine of Jacrezinho is being blessed, those who come to the Original Shrine to celebrate the 18th of October, will just begin to stand in lines to enter …
