BRAZIL, Sister Maria da Graca Sales. The 54th session to deliver the documents of proof for the cause of the beatification of the Servant of God John Louis Pozzobon was held on July 22nd at 4:15 p.m. at the episcopate of the Diocese of Santa Maria.
The process of beatification for John Louis Pozzobon was opened on December 12, 1994, the historic commission, essential for he process, was not constituted until the year 2000.
The session began with the prayer for the beatification John Louis Pozzobon, followed by the greeting of Bishop Monsignor Helio Adelar Rubert. He praised and blessed God for this historic moment in his diocese, which will celebrate its centennial in 2010. He recalled that on this day the memory of Saint Mary Magalena is celebrated; she was chosen by God to announce the resurrection of Jesus. She was a lay person who loved Jesus. John Pozzobon gave testimony of his love of God and of the mission as an instrument and apostle of the Lord, as his untiring disciple. Monsignor Helio expressed his gratitude for the work that John Pozzobon did.
We should pray and ask for the grace of a miracle for the beatification
The appointed judge, Monsignor Atyde Busanello, explained this phase of the process and the president of the historic commission, Maria Medianera Padoin, presented him with the material compiled by the commission.
The members of the historic commission were invited to make their individual oath, affirming their care in the research of the writings and documents of the Servant of God John Louis Pozzobon, and of not altering its contents. It was a very solemn moment, where the spiritual presence of John and the blessing of Father Joseph Kentenich were felt. The notary of the cause, Father Celito Morao, read the minutes of the session which everyone signed.
Father Argemiro, postulator of the cause, addressed those present reminding them that 16 packages that contained 300 documents each with a total of 4818 outlines, copies of documents written by John and digitalized copies of documents selected by the historic commission from the John Louis Pozzobon archive were delivered. Father Argemiro explained that the odor of sanctity and the confirmation of a miracle are still needed before the diocesan process is closed and then sent to Rome.
After the session, Monsignor Helio said that previously he envisioned the saints as distant persons, but now he feels the sanctity of John as being very close. He stressed that we must pray and ask for the grace of a miracle for the beatification. He expressed his gratitude to the members of the historic commission and the tribunal of the process for their work. He also thanked the Provincial Superior of the Sisters of Mary, who allowed Sister M. Ivanir to work on the historic commission. He especially thanked Father Argemiro for his determination and dedication to this process. He gave the final blessing and then he met with the press for an interview and for photos.
"I am poor in everything, but I have everything"
Whomever reads the documents of the John Pozzobon archive, can conclude that he lived with simplicity, and with a profound attachment with the Shrine of the Mother Thrice Admirable and Victress of Schoenstatt, loyal to the teaching of Father Joseph Kentenich and with great love for the Church, his family and the most needy. He wrote: "I am poor in everything, but I have everything".
We pray and ask that God the Father in his Divine Providence will continue to lead the work of the process of beatification. We praise God for this day: it was a milestone in the history of the Schoenstatt Movement in Santa Maria.
