USA, amj. What a blessed day it was when I was asked to "help" at schoenstatt.de! Why was it a blessed day? As Rick said to Louie at the end of the movie, Casablanca, "Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." An amazing world opened up to me… and as I have said on more than one occasion. "It’s like having a front row seat to all things Schoenstatt." The best part of that is I didn’t have to drive anywhere, buy a ticket, or call for reservations. It has all been through the website for schoenstatt.de.

A little background might help frame this a bit better. For over a year now, I have had the distinct privilege of helping to edit articles for schoenstatt.de. Am I a famous editor? No way! What was it Father said about the greatness of the task… and the smallness of the instrument? So how did I get this great job? Easy. I said "yes!", well, figuratively speaking… most likely I said… "Surely there are more qualified and experienced people clamoring to do this." "No," was the answer… so I said, "Well I can help until they find someone more qualified." Fortunately for me, they haven’t yet…

Article after article revealed the work of the Blessed Mother

Now back to the more important reason I’m writing this. At first, I wasn’t too sure about the whole enterprise. But over time, something began to happen; article after article revealed the work of the Blessed Mother. Celebrations of anniversaries, Illuminated Rosaries, Covenant Days, blessings of new Shrines, funerals, retreats, conferences, Covenants of Love, pilgrimages, Rosary Campaign, Dawn-breakers! The whole panoply of all things Schoenstatt marched across my computer screen like the heavenly elliptical does each night. Struggles, miracles, triumphs, lives forever changed were unfolding in the entire human drama of the New Shore… everyday sanctity. You maybe asking yourself, "When did all that happen? Where?" Why on schoenstatt.de of course! Like the Beloved Disciple, St. John, and Father Kentenich’s example of pressing his ear to the heart of Jesus, schoenstatt.de keeps its eyes and ears open for the move of God throughout the Schoenstatt realm.

In other words, all these events and the articles written about them have an accumulative effect. Exponentially! Sometimes when I’m struggling with some issue, here comes an article about how reconciliation is being brought about by the Auxiliary MTA traveling through a region beset by conflict. Or when I see a newspaper story about some young person arrested for this or that… then here comes an article, in which young people are living their faith by doing for the least of our brethren. Kindergarteners raising money for children halfway around the world to be able to receive a decent education, and in so doing, they have done it unto Jesus. Heroic childlikeness! Sacrifices and contributions to the Capital of Grace in each article, ka-ching! And the love that is manifested in these articles is a testimony to the grace flowing from all the Shrines.

It helps keep us together by continually encouraging us, enriching us, and reminding us of all our Covenant of Love

Did I mention humor? Look for the joy of humor in articles about emotional seminarians, liturgies gone awry, bets on the lengths of sermons for ice cream, power-failures in the midst of Holy Communion… and so much more. Then there are the stories that get you right in your Covenant of Love. Blessings for families, marriages renewed, adversities overcome, healings, repentance, life…it’s all there in schoenstatt.de.

Many of the articles come from everyday Schoenstatters who faithfully report what’s happening in their part of the world, while others are from Schoenstatt Fathers or Sisters. And then there’s Sister Kornelia, a true unsung hero, and the many volunteers world-wide who work feverishly to get the articles submitted, translated, edited, and uploaded on the website. Talk about your faith in Divine Providence!

On a more serious note, the apostolate of schoenstatt.de does more than keep us all informed about the happenings in the Schoenstatt world; it helps keep us together by continually encouraging us, enriching us, and reminding us of all our Covenant of Love with the Blessed Mother. As an important mission for the Church, it also manifests the new evangelization called for by John Paul II.

What a privilege to be able to be a part of this amazing work! See what happens when you say, yes?

Editor’s note:

Needless to say that after translating this spontaneously written testimony into German and replacing "Schoenstatt.de" by "MTA magazine", you find a 98% match in all but two paragraphs to what certain young men wrote from the trenches of WWI after receiving the first-ever Schoenstatt publication, Father Kentenich’s MTA magazine with the programmatic subtitle: Mutual inspirations…
