BRAZIL, Leonardo F. Monfernatti. On 20, 21 and 22 March, members of the Schoenstatt Boys’ Youth (JUMAS) participated in the now traditional New Man Crusade. This event has been held every year since 1999 over Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday in preparation for the Resurrection of our Lord on Easter Sunday. The young men walked during these three days, starting out at the Shrine in Londrina on Thursday morning, and arrived at the Cornélio Procópio Shrine at about mid-day. About 130 boys Londrina, Ibiporã, Cornélio Procópio, Bandeirantes, Itambaracá, Maringá, Guarapuava e Barbosa Ferraz took part in the crusade. This year’s Crusade, celebrating its tenth anniversary, was filled with deep spiritual content and throughout their journey the boys examined the six JUMAS foundation stones in search of their national identity, namely: "New Man," "Tabor," "Heroic Fire," "Puer et Pater," "Covenant of Love" and "Attachment." The boys, who were led by Fr. Matheus (São Paulo) and Fr. Alexandre (Londrina), walked about 80km along dirt roads and braved heavy rain and blistering sun. I always find the same and possibly the only answer for this: the LOVE we feel for God and Mary!"The 10th Crusade certainly made a deep impression on us, and it was wonderful that boys from various towns from around the state took part. On the evening of the Easter Vigil, one of the JUMAS catechumens was baptized and so there were many families present as well. Everything was very well organized from the liturgy to spirituality, support teams and food. I also want to thank the towns of Urai and Jataizinho for welcoming us during the event. I am very happy to see the Boys’ Youth overcoming yet another challenge with great tenacity and joy and they honoured the mission that Mary left us: to educate new men in a new society." Fr. Alexandre Awi, JUMAS director for Paraná. "It is true that when we tell people that we will walk from Londrina to Cornélio, people think we’re mad, and yes, I also think we are mad, madly in love with Jesus and his Mother. In spite of our sacrifices, pain and our feet covered in blisters, I know that what we feel is not as painful as what Jesus went through during his Passion, but I also know that he is watching our efforts to stay strong and will reward us in some way, since "God speaks to us more closely during the Crusade." During the journey, we sometimes ask ourselves what the point of all of this is, when we could be at home resting or simply having fun doing something else. Over the four years that I have taken part, I always find the same and possibly, the only answer for this: the LOVE we feel for God and Mary! If it wasn’t for them, I would be just like everyone else, without dreams to fulfill and ideals to search for." Luiz Henrique Furlanetti, Cornélio JUMAS leader. This Crusade is making history by touching generations and showing others that today there are young men who are ready to surrender themselves for Christ and Mary.
