PARAGUAY, César y Diana Elizeche-Yuruhán. May 9, 2005 a cold, rainy night, my husband and I were invited to a meeting at the Youth Shrine for a talk about the Schoenstatt Movement… about which we had curiosity and hopeful expectations. At the beginning of the meeting, the facilitator showed us a table with different types of empty chairs and then asked us to reflect on this image. By presenting this image, they gave us the beginning of "a small sample" of the Movement. We decided to attend the following meeting in Tuparenda, and as it so happened suddenly, one evening we found ourselves part of a group with some people we knew and others we had just met for the first time.

Our special curiosity was satisfied as very soon the group began to read Mary’s Prophet, and there was a continuous flow of life and stream of information from our very generous group leaders who were also the Blessed Mother’s special instruments. Without realizing it as we learned more and more, we were taking root in the world of Schoenstatt. The group was forming into a community of believing hearts until it was formed in the selected name, which expressed the deep yearning we all felt: Towards Tabor! Time spent being warmed up in the Movement, led our group to initiate the way to the Covenant of Love. We dedicated a year of study and preparation for the big day under the magnificent pedagogical itinerary our group leaders – Rosi and Roberto Labrano - prepared for this level, helping us proceed toward the Covenant of Love; small miracles of change were already being seen in the hearts of the members of our group.

The million dollar question

As the big event loomed closer, questions arose in our brothers and us; are we prepared? Do we deserve this? What do I do to reach this? What can I offer to Mary? But even as these questions surfaced so did the answers. We were preparing ourselves by answering these questions.

We are in Mary’s heart. From this standpoint, all questions were answered. From the moment when we timidly said our, "YES," to Mary in commitment, we were growing with the contributions to the Capital of Grace through the offering of our hearts, goods, and interests. She is always here, always, perhaps we didn’t see this often because we were worried about life, and all the distractions we have from day to day, or maybe because we didn’t think great things could come from our smallness.

All the contributions to the Capital of Grace made long ago have increased our growth and the growth of the Movement, it is written: "She can never be outdone in generosity." Things began to close and our hearts began to stir with the yearning to be officially allied with Her.

Only the beginning

So the great day arrived. The ideal had been to go peacefully and fully rested, but things that day got complicated. As we went towards Tuparenda, our calmness evaporated as the joyful excitement of what we were about to go through created a little anxious anticipation.

The atmosphere of the rite was spiritually charged and powerfully filled with as much love as one could expect in the presence of the Blessed Mother, especially when saying YES, really saying it to Her. What a fabulous gift our Founding Father gave to us in showing us how to enliven the bond She has with us, and for the opportunity to say YES to him!

We know we are just at the beginning of a steep climb ahead, but with the love of our Heavenly Father and with Mary’s hand, the climb is much more manageable. Now we have one more major commitment left: in taking this Covenant on high by helping others be agents for change, by helping our brothers, and by looking for and reaching our Tabor through the ideal of having holy marriages. Thank you Blessed Mother! Thank you Father Kentenich!
