URUGUAY, Federico Ferreira. "Bike-a-thon" was the name thought up by a member of the Boys’ Youth of Montevido… What’s the significance? Well, it has a great deal of significance, talk about something pretty crazy, something for people a few sandwiches short of a picnic, and considering that for some time Schoenstatters have been thought a little "touched" in the head… was a significant act of love… Bike-a-thon was the name we came up with for the first pilgrimage on bicycle. For a long time the Boys’ Youth of Montevideo wanted to unite the future Montevideo Shrine with the first Daughter Shrine at New Helvecia, but never before had we dreamed of going by bicycle from Montevideo to New Helvecia…

It seems now the time had arrived; it took shape spontaneously and each one had the idea to offer big sacrifices for the conquest of the heart our queen, and one day the idea was brought up and we all said we had been thinking the same thing and here we are…On February 2nd and 3rd , we were off on an adventure for the conquest of Mary’s heart.

The fruit of great heroic acts

Schoenstatt was forged from the great heroic acts from our Father and Founder and our heroes: Joseph Engling, John Pozzobon, Franz Reinisch, Sister Emilie Engel, and many others. Obviously, we were love crazy and there’s no comparison with these real-life heroes, but it tries to be one more grain of sand so Mary’s workshop is established in our city. So our bicycle pilgrimage was realized with the boys from JM de Montevideo, 130km. to the New Helvecia Shrine – torment included!

All this offered not as a peculiarity, nor as a sport, but as a madness of love, from something more "crazy" thank 130km. or 80.75 mi. on a bike. What a Mother, Jesus’ Mother, who takes residence between us in our city of Montevideo! We request all those who wanted to join us that they help us pray for this madness of love. The more voices there are will help our prayers sound louder, and surely our Mom will listen to us with an open heart …
