CHILE, Georg Schick. Someday, if their grandsons and great-grandsons ask the couple how they met each other, they will talk about a star... a star that, in 2004, appeared over Schoenstatt and invited youth from the entire world to the International Youth Festival and World Youth Day in Cologne; and this star particularly led some young people to spend a few months of their lives in Schoenstatt to prepare for the experience the Schoenstatt International youth and many more would encounter. Through a rigorous selection process, a few were appointed by the Project Office to work there ... And so a young man from Switzerland and a young woman from Chile set out ... And then... Francisca Besser from Chile and David Fischer from Switzerland met each other in the Project Office while preparing for the 2005 World Youth Day. Now, on January 5, 2008, the day before Epiphany, they followed their star, which led them to Concepción, Chile where they pronounced, "I do" in holy matrimony. In the program of the Wedding Mass was the following message from the couple: "....We met each other in Schoenstatt while preparing for World Youth Day in Cologne and this encounter revealed to us our way. We celebrate our love today on the Feast Day of the Three Kings in remembrance of the star we followed. Like the three kings, we, too, followed our star, which formed our path and has now led us here to be bound as Man and Wife. Today, we are giving each other the Sacrament of Marriage. We are not taking this stride in silence; rather, we are celebrating with everyone here today. To some extent, you have come from afar to be witnesses of our bondage. We sincerely thank you..." The impressive and profound Wedding Mass was formed from both cultures. The readings and songs alternated between Spanish and German. Along with a group of young people from Germany, Martina Kraus, Daniel Groeber and Georg Schick, also a delegation from Switzerland, travelled with the family of the groom. Together with Francisca’s family, the international group spent the week of New Year’s in Pucon collectively enjoying the Chilean culture and ambiance. They wish Francisca and David all the best as the couple ventures down their path lighted by the star they have followed. Translation: Melissa Ann Schmid, USA |
