BURUNI/KENYA, MKF. No one in Bujumbura, Burundi knew what would happen a shortly after the 18th of December 2007 in the neighboring country of Kenya. A month after the solemn commissioning of the Third International Auxiliary MTA of the Rosary Campaign, which would go on pilgrimage through Burundi, Rwanda, Congo, and perhaps Kenya, the people of this country needed Her manifestation as the Queen of Peace now more than ever.

The political-ethnic violence after the general election on December 27, 2007 in Kenya has reached 700 deaths the Kenyan police reported on January 13th. "We have discovered eighty-nine more bodies in the last five days in the scrub land in the Rift valley and in the province west of the country," said a high police official whose statement was confirmed by a leader of the International Red Cross. Furthermore, about 260,000 people have fled from the Rift Valley west of the country as a result of the inter- ethnic violence. Kenya has sunk into a major crisis for more than two weeks as a result of the re-election of President Mwai Kbaki, which was contested by the opposition party. The political crisis in Kenya is also having serious economic consequences in the adjoining countries that depend greatly on the infrastructure of Kenya for their exports and imports, especially for hydrocarbon. The countries affected are Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Southern Sudan, and the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In Uganda there has already been an increase in the price of gasoline. According to ONU, a half million people will need humanitarian assistance in Kenya in the coming weeks. Even more they need the assistance of grace. "It is good that She is near," commented a missionary from Argentina. "It is good that She can act from Burundi." Whether or not the Auxiliary MTA will visit Kenya, as had been planned some months ago in Burundi, within the context of a visit to Schoenstatters in Kenya, is still open for now. But She will surely act.

Queen of peace

The Third International Auxiliary MTA arrived in Burundi in November. During 2008 the Schoenstatt family from this country wants to take the Pilgrim MTA to each family with the motto "my family your crown" so that She will work as Queen of Peace in Burundi, which after years of civil war seeks a stable peace.

On December 8th, in a large celebration attended by a large number of pilgrims and in the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio of Burundi, Bishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Auxiliary MTA was sent to go on pilgrimage through the country with the mission of a new evangelization, the strengthening of the Rosary Campaign, which has been in Burundi for ten years, and to promote peace which begins in the hearts and in families. A couple from the Campaign is in charge of the organization of its pilgrimage and of its visits in the country.
