ARGENTINA, Sister Alejandra Aguilar. It is a grace to experience October 18th at the Original Shrine in Schoenstatt, or at one of the sister Shrines’ celebrations with the massive presence of pilgrims; but it can also be a grace to experience it in the confines of the world. At Tierra del Fuego, Covenant Day was celebrated by the children furthest geographically from the Original Shrine, but who are equally or more loved than those nearby. Over there everything is an effort, in spite of being in the midst of the surprisingly natural beauty. On the 18th the picture of the Blessed Mother, which was to be placed in a new wayside shrine in the Bintrup Neighborhood, was blessed in the Parish of Mary the Helper, in Ushuaia. A Mothers group prepared the families of that neighborhood, circulating the Pilgrim MTA, who invited them for the blessing on Saturday, October 20th. Welcoming tourists and visitors from throughout the worldSunday the 21st – Mothers’ Day in Argentina – Pilgrimage Number 18 was made to Lapataia Bay, the southernmost Wayside Shrine of the continent, above the Beagle Canal, that marks the border with Chile. It’s almost twenty-five kilometers on foot ; including the stops, it took seven and a half hours to get there. A procession was organized upon arriving. The Auxiliary was placed on a wooden carrier decorated with flowers and after crossing a small arroyo, it was taken down to the beach until it reached the rocky ledge on which there is a wayside shrine with an image of the Blessed Mother, painted white. Since there was a low tide, they arrived easily; when the tide is high it surrounds the ledge, but it never covers it. She remains there, welcoming the thousands of tourists who arrive from throughout the world. Year after year, it welcomes the Schoenstatters on pilgrimages by foot and those who arrive in a caravan of cars. A Holy Mass was held in these southernmost latitudes, which was concelebrated by Father Luis Azcona, pastor, and Father Victor Hugo Massarotti, a Schoenstatter and Police Chaplain. They prayed for peace, for families, for the Nation, and for everyone’s intentions. It was a Covenant encounter between heaven, earth, and themselves, aflame by the fire, which is what gave this land its name, Tierra del Fuego, Land of Fire, and sets aflame the mission of the Father and Founder in them giving them the impetus to continue working for such a great continental mission in Latin America. This is the spirit that moves them and has mobilized hundreds of missionaries in the city of Ushuaia, especially those convoked by the Schoenstatt leaders of the place, united and at the service of the parish organizations.
