ARGENTINA, Patricia Garcia Castro. Once more the desire of the Schoenstatt Family from Buenos Aires to go on pilgrimage together to the National Shrine of New Schoenstatt in Florencio Varela was accomplished. The day was profoundly marked by the encounter with the Founding Father and his charism of being a Father, a father to everyone who through his presence creates a family and who seeks mature and responsible children for his mission.

About 10:30 a.m. the first pilgrims arrived at Zion, a favorite meeting place, to depart together to New Schoenstatt.

At 11:15 a.m. they departed from Zion. Two Auxiliary MTAs of the Rosary Campaign led the line of people, followed by the Papal and Argentinean flags and the flags from each Branch including the Rosary Campaign’s.

It was beautiful to see the group advance through the streets of Varela praying the rosary behind the pictures of the Blessed Mother until they reached the gate of New Schoenstatt. From there they went directly to the Shrine and then to the Church of God the Father where Father Javier Arteaga, National Director, and Father Pablo Poi concelebrated the Holy Mass.

Pastor, educator, missionary, apostle of Mary...but most of all: Father

"Today we encounter the Blessed Mother through someone very special: Father Kentenich," explained Father Arteaga. "He taught us to know her and love her. He guides us and leads us. He is our Father."

Father Artega continued:

Father Kentenich can be defined in several ways: as pastor, educator, missionary, and apostle of Mary. But above all he is a Father. Each one discovers him as a Father. The Fenelon Family met Father in exile: Michael (one of their sons) wrote in "Memories of Father" that Father Kentenich had a paternal understanding, who was transparent and who, thanks to him, they could know the Heavenly Father. The door of the Father Kentenich House makes him think about the entrance to the house of the Father. We have known a Father and through him we know God.

Characteristics of God as a Father, reflected in the Founding Father:

1. Love: is the essence of God. Everything through love, for love, in love. Everything returns to God. The saints loved so much that they were infected by the love of God. They were motivated through love. Once a priest asked Father what his intention was and he responded: that I may shelter millions of people in my heart.

2. Mercy: traditionally it is established that love is based on justice and truth. Father established that it was, in addition to these, it is also based on mercy. Jesus manifested mercy in the Gospel. God knows how to forgive, reconcile, and forget. It is the cause of our hope, of our consolation. "The ultimate reason of the God’s absence is that we lack people who reflect the love of God."

3. Tranquility and peace: the Founding Father is a reflection of the love of God, of his tranquility and peace. It is not that what happens does not affect him; rather it is that he trusts that God directs history. "Lord, I will have no ill, because You are with me." His life was in the hands of God.

4. Paternity: Father Kentenich is the founder of the family. He became our Father. Do we consider ourselves as children of this Father? As children,at what stage are we? How are we bonded to him?

  • Responsible children: With Mary, family of the Father.
  • Mature and responsible children of the mission of the Father.
  • Continue being children who are co-responsible: be a family that desires the Father

What would Father tell us today? Love urges us. Be responsible for my family:

  • Develop love of Mary: understand Mary from Father’s understanding. She is the image of the Church and she is a Mother.
  • Be responsible for the family of Buenos Aires each one in his mission. Father lived and gave his life for love of us.
  • Be in charge of the mission that he struggled for all his life: the new man in the new community. Firm and free men. A new community equates to a new nation, with the face of a family.

We should have an apostolic spirit: "mutually awakening one another because there is much to do." We should conquer many hearts for the family. Today we are here to commit ourselves with him and to show our love for the Blessed Mother. "We go with you, our hand in your hand, our thinking in your thinking, and our heart in your heart. Your inheritance is our mission."

Always around the Father

After Mass, everyone went in procession to greet the Blessed Mother in the Shrine, and then they went to the statue of Father Kentenich. The flags were placed close to Father; there was a glass receptacle at his feet where each branch and group placed their Capital of Grace to offer it to Father.

The Boys’ and Girls’ Youth began followed by the Professionals, the Mothers, the Family Work…each one expressed their desire to grow as a branch and as Family in a prayer to Father. Then everyone surrounded Father and a photo was taken with him, with the Shrine in the background as a sign of the Blessed Mother’s presence.

In Zion

The day continued at Zion where the beloved "barbecue chef" prepared some delicious hamburgers and the games began… It was an afternoon filled with familial joy, laughter, jokes, dances, songs, and human pyramids that will become part of history.
