BURUNDI, Sister M. Lisette Seitzer. On November 18th, Covenant Day, there was a celebration for the twenty-nine mothers who received the much desired Schoenstatt scarf as a sign of their commitment to Schoenstatt and their willingness to begin the preparation for the Covenant of Love which they want to seal very soon. During the Pilgrims’ Mass, the ceremony for the presentation of the scarves took place, after the Creed. Trinity Church was full of people. The presence of the International Auxiliary MTA of the Campaign during the Mass gave this celebration a special touch. The mothers were elated to know about the presence of the Auxiliary that came to visit their country, and many of them even asked to take a personal picture with her after the Mass! The group photo with the Auxiliary was taken in the Pilgrims’ Church on the steps of the altar. At the right side a bar can be seen that is used to close the Tabernacle. Since it is an open church without walls, the Tabernacle needs to be protected. At six o’clock each morning, Mass is celebrated in this chapel, which is visited by many people. Visiting for a yearThe Auxiliary arrived in Burundi on November 11th from Schoenstatt via Switzerland. It was blessed in 1987 by John Paul II in the chapel of the Nuncio's House in Buenos Aires, during the first World Youth Day to be celebrated outside of Rome. The Auxiliary was commissioned at the Tabor Shrine in Santa Maria, Brazil, on December 12, 1986 – and is now visiting in Burundi for a year, and next will travel to Congo, Rwanda, and Kenya. As Queen of the New Evangelization, she wants to accompany the Schoenstatt Family in its work for peace. Translation: Celina Garza, Harlingen, TX, USA/amj |
