ARGENTINA, Maria Silvina Rocca. In the midst of daily difficulties, some of the missionaries from the Rosary Campaign of Belgrano Vicariate in the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires discovered that there are many people who need them and wait for them. This revelation occured on August 10th while working in coordination with the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes in the neighborhood of Belgrano where Pirovano Hospital is located, they went to Pirovano Hospital to celebrate Children’s Day with its little patients. They were welcomed by the Director of the hospital Dr. Jorge Antonio Cuba, Vice-Director Dr. José Luis Tobal, Father Ramiro from the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes, who is also chaplain of the hospital, and Mrs. Elena Bocuk a Volunteer of Mary, which is an apostolic action of the Schoenstatt Movement at the service of the patients in the public hospitals. The missionaries were told that the hospital needed a Mini Heine 2000 Otoscope, an instrument that is used constantly, and it is very necessary in the pediatric ear, nose, and throat ward. They immediately began a campaign to get one. After achieving their campaign goal, they donated this bit of needed equipment to the hospital. In addition, clothes were donated for the adult wards and gowns were provided for the maternity ward. Joy in the pediatric wardIn Argentina, Children’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of August and was fast approaching. The missionary visitor’s took clothes and toys to the pediatric ward. They also accompanied some of the parents who were very happy to see the surprised expression on their children’s faces when they received the toys. A comment heard was: "Look at the joy that is on their faces now, it is incredible! There are still people who remember them on their day. " When a little girl who was lying on her little bed received the gift of a pink pajamas she immediately asked: "I can I wear them?" "Yes, they’re yours…" When another child received a little toy elephant, she asked her mother to bring a baby bottle for her little animal so that he would not get sick. And she kept hugging it. The joy of these sick children was very moving. Many of them are very ill, but the love and companionship given to them also gave them hope in spite of their condition. The missionaries accompanying the parents gave them each a holy card of the Blessed Mother with prayers that they could say for their children. Everyone was very happy, and there was an atmosphere of celebration in the pediatric ward. For a short while joy reigned and hope replaced cares and worries. Remove the barriers of "I can’t" or " I don’t have time" or "Perhaps I will go, but I am not sure …" The Campaign of the Pilgrim MTA is on the way. Our only objective is that She will go to everyone who needs Her, to go on pilgrimage without taking the distance into account. So with this as motivation, they returned from this visit to the hospital with the following motto: We are instruments of God. He shows us the way and He gives us the necessary strength to proceed by removing the barriers of "I can’t, I don’t have time, or perhaps I will go, but I am not sure." Pope Benedict XVI on his trip to Brazil: "We must expand our hearts by filling them with more love, more kindness, more understanding in the midst of all the problems we face today. We should learn how to share with joy, harmony, and love…. So then, let us be missionaries, and take the word of God to everyone who is lagging spiritually for different reasons. The love of God and the Eucharist are the motor of our life that has never left us stranded on the road, and these will give us the necessary strength to continue with our mission of taking His word to those who need it the most." In this instance, it was the children and their parents. Next the missionaries have planned a visit at a home for the elderly. Translation: Celina Garza, Harlingen, TX, USA /amj |
