URUGUAY, Federico Ferreira. Three years ago, we do not know why, we began to walk together….. Something motivated the youth to walk to Nueva Helvecia. In the beginning, we did not understand why? We were only motivated to walk and to arrive at an unknown place….. In 2007, we knew very well where we were going: we were going to Mother’s house. We were walking for her. We were dreaming of her…..

We were only 4 in 2005, 12 in 2006, and this time we were 55….. Fifty five persons with one common goal, one same love. They were leaving aside their lives, their commitments, and their responsibilities in order to walk together.

We met at 5:30 A.M. to leave together for Libertad. What a coincidence that at that place we were giving our YES freely to the Blessed Mother, entrusting our pilgrimage to Her! Our story of freedom and love would begin in Libertad. In the city’s parish and with the Oblate Fathers, we renewed our expectations and our steps could be heard on the road.

Without counting

We were fifty kilometers from Ecilda Paullier, one of the few cities with a woman’s name….. Fifty kilometers and thus "without counting" what we were doing, "without counting" on the love which sheltered us, "without counting" that we were on the road together, "without counting" the pain, "without counting" the sacrifices, "without counting" the cold, the tiredness, the blisters. ( in Spanish, 50 is cincuenta and "sin cuenta"[pronounced the same] is "without counting." The play on words makes the translation difficult…..hope this helps. C.Cantú)

Finally Ecilda and a beautiful Wayside Shrine: it was Mother who embraced us. She caressed us after an exhausting journey. It was Mother who covered us with her mantle…..a cold night sleeping on the floor, a breakfast on the run, and once again walking.

To run 300 meters to the Shrine with no more strength…..

We had thirty five kilometers to go. We could smell the aroma of the garden and the warmth of the Shrine: we were close, very close…..but we still had a ways to walk. This is the way this is. You sense the feeling but the road continues. To give it up when you are so close is to lose the final prize!.....

Our prize was to run 300 meters although we were spent…..we went through a half-arched door…..we fell exhausted on a wooden bench…..we were all squeezed together in order to fit…..we gazed into the eyes of a Lady holding a Child in her arms and all our tiredness, pain and suffering was transformed into tears which we gave to Her at that moment…..

I go by your light. Everything for you, dear MTA

Seventy five kilometers, step by step, only for Her. How many more steps will we have to take so that our Mother establishes Herself in Montevideo? How much more? It does not matter. What matters is the gift she left in the heart of each one of us…..in the Boys’ Youth, in Father’s Lillies, in the couples who accompanied us, in the coordinators who supported us, in the Sisters who prayed for us, in the male novices, postulants and seminarians who lived this experience…..in the entire Schoenstatt Family from Uruguay and the world.

How many more kilometers for your Shrine, Mother? Whether it be a hundred or thousands: your apostles are here to say YES, dear MTA. "I go by your light" Everything for you, dear MTA!
